Jason Collin, City Council candidate, on the mend after Kingsbury Grade crash

A number of runners and staff with Epic Tahoe Adventures were involved in Friday's collision between one of their rented motor homes and a SUV on Kingsbury Grade.

The South Lake Tahoe company was involved in the beta testing of a new running event which sent runners in teams of 12, running three legs each, in a 81 mile race from South Lake Tahoe to Mammoth Mountain.

Jason Collin, the "Chief Officer of Awesomeness" for the company, as well as a South Lake Tahoe City Council candidate and Director of Hospice and Home Health for Barton, was driving one of two motor homes when, for unknown reasons, a Nissan Pathfinder crossed over the double line and hit Collin's vehicle. Both Collin and the SUV driver had to be extricated and Care Flighted to a Reno hospital. The unidentified woman succumbed to her injuries.

Jason's wife Natalie was a passenger in the motor home. She was transported by ground ambulance, treated and released.

"Our hearts, minds, and entire focus continues to be with those involved or injured," said a post on Epic Tahoe Adventures. "We will be posting further information on the condition of Jason and the others as soon as it becomes available."

Jason has undergone surgeries to repair the broken bones in his legs which were also shattered in various places from the knee down. He'll undergo another surgery on his left leg Monday. His friends say he is in good spirits and has thanked all his well wishers via posts on Facebook.

The Tahoe to Mammoth race was canceled due to the crash. Some runners were in the RV while others were in a second rented motor home. Friends of one of the injured occupants, "Miss Kym," have started a GoFundMe page to help with her hospital bills as she recovers in Renown Medical Center after surgery to help with swelling between her C5 and C6 vertebrae.

Names of the injured occupants besides Jason and Natalie Collins have not been released.
