Driver's name released in fatal Kingsbury Grade crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released the name of the driver killed in Friday's head on collision on Kingsbury Grade that also injured South Lake Tahoe residents.

Wellington, Nev., resident Carrie Hilderbrand, 47, was killed when her Nissan Pathfinder drifted over the double yellow line as she was heading east on the valley side of the road. She collided with a Leprechaun motorhome driven by 43-year-old Jason Collin of South Lake Tahoe who was traveling westbound near Douglas County mile marker 5 about 1.5 miles east of the summit.

Troopers from NHP were dispatched to the September 23 collision at 1:30 p.m. along with personnel from several other agencies.

According to NHP reports, the Nissan struck the left front of the motorhome with it's front end. Hilderbrand and her vehicle then spun counterclockwise and came to rest alongside the driver’s side of the coach. She was the sole occupant of the Nissan. In the motorhome were six passengers many of them sustaining minor to moderate injury in the crash.

Collins and Hilderbrand were transported via Care Flight to a Reno Hospital and three of the passengers of the motorhome were transported via ground to local area hospitals. Hilderbrand succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash and was pronounced deceased.

At this time, impairment is unknown and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Collins was transporting passengers, including his wife Natalie, who were taking part in Epic Tahoe Adventure's beta test run of a race from Tahoe to Mammoth. Collins is co-founder of the race company, a candidate for South Lake Tahoe City Council and a director at Barton Health.
