Have you registered to vote? Today is National Voter Registration Day

"Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting."
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States.

In South Lake Tahoe there are currently 10,182 registered voters and in the east slope portion of El Dorado County there are 19,909, are you one of them?

Tuesday, September 25, 2018 is National Voter Registration Day, reminding those who haven't completed the process to get it done before the November 6 election. National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday celebrating democracy and was first observed in 2012.

In the US, presidential election participation is pretty high: Over 6 in 10 eligible Americans voted in the last three quadrennial elections, but turnout drops during mid-year and primary elections. In June 38.8% of voters turned out in El Dorado County's Area 5 (where South Lake Tahoe and the West Slope are located).

In California, residents need to register to vote 15 days before Election Day, or by October 22,, 2018. They can also conditionally register to vote up to and including on Election Day in person at the County Elections Office. For the South Shore people can register at the Recorder-Clerk office in South Lake Tahoe at the County's Government office at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Takela.

In Nevada, registration is open until 21 days before Election Day if done in person or online, or October 18. Mail-in registration is open until 31 days (October 9) before the election. No day-of registration is allowed.
