Where and how to get COVID-19 vaccines in counties around Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With five different counties in two different states surrounding Lake Tahoe, there are different procedures concerning COVID-19 vaccines depending on which area one resides. As more doses of the vaccine become available, each county is in charge of its own vaccination rollout. Most in California will be vaccinated at community vaccination sites, doctor’s offices, clinics or pharmacies, depending on their county's plans.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a very short window for small businesses to apply for the latest round in COVID-19 relief grants. From December 30 2020 - January 8, 2021, businesses can apply for some of the $475 million that will be made available in two rounds.

Town of Truckee votes to adopt urgency ordinance for lodging to keep community safe

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Facing an influx of tourists during the Governor's Regional Stay-at-Home order just as South Lake Tahoe has seen, the Town of Truckee Council unanimously passed an urgency ordinance Tuesday night to protect the public's health. Any hotel, motel or vacation home rental in use during the Stay-at-Home order can now face the revoking, suspension or denial of their Tourist Occupancy Certificate.

The Stay-at-Home order states lodging properties are to not be rented to anyone except essential workers in order to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Truckee, El Dorado and Placer County leaders ask AirBnB to not allow rentals during Stay-at-Home order

El Dorado County, Placer County and Town of Truckee representatives have sent a letter to Airbnb, asking for assistance stopping short-term rentals (STR) during the current Stay at Home Order. They told the vacation rental booking company that their help is needed to stop the spread of COVID-19 and asked them to not allow rentals in Truckee and the California side of Lake Tahoe during the order which is through at least January 1.

Election result updates for El Dorado County - Updates for Douglas County expected Friday

More ballot counts have been released by the elections departments at both El Dorado and Douglas Counties.

EL DORADO COUNTY

El Dorado County election officials have released another tally of ballots counted. The results remain the same as of the November 10 count. Votes Cast: 116,744 of 135,554, or 86.12 percent of eligible voters.

LTCC offers ESL, Citizenship and High School Equivalency courses

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College offers noncredit citizenship classes along with English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency (HSE) courses. Even though registration is wrapping up, the flexibility of these noncredit classes allows students to still get started.

As part of the course, they assist students in filling out forms, provide practice interviews and assist with learning English. While the class is in English, assistance is provided for students in Spanish and other languages, if needed. This quarter, the classes are via live Zoom.

Lake Tahoe Marathon canceled for 2020

The 26th annual Lake Tahoe Marathon scheduled for October 9-11 has been canceled for 2020.

Due to the volume of participants and required bus transportation to starting points, the popular three-day event was canceled since gathering and social distancing protocols couldn't be met. The date for the event will be October 8-10, 2021.

The odds of being able to have the 25th Lake Tahoe Marathon this year on Oct 9-11th have dropped to about 1%.

Tahoe Chamber Town Hall: New blueprint for a safer economy

Governor Newsom has announced the new Blueprint for a Safer Economy, which includes revised criteria for loosening and tightening restrictions on activities. The Tahoe Chamber has invited El Dorado County Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams to learn what the new tier-based system means for the reopening of our businesses, and the guidelines for restaurants opening for indoor dining at 25% occupancy.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services holds "Miles for Recovery" virtual event

UPDATE: Registration until September 15, 2020.

September is National Recovery Month for both substance abuse and mental health. In recognition of this, Tahoe Youth & Family Services is partnering with Carson Valley Medical Center and providing a Miles For Recovery virtual challenge fundraiser.

This fundraiser will replace the organization’s annual 5K event at the beginning of Carson Valley Days that was canceled because of the pandemic.

Fundraising, donations and grants are the only source of income for the 501c3 nonprofit.

Free weekly COVID testing in Kirkwood and Woodfords

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - There is a new schedule for COVID testing in Woodfords in Alpine County. Starting this week, testing will take place every week on Thursdays instead of the previous every other week schedule. These tests are for those with or without symptoms.

Tests are in the parking lot of Alpine County Health and Human Services in Woodfords, across the street from the Fire Station.

America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride and Tour de Tahoe postponed

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The organizer of the 29th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride and the 18th Tour De Tahoe has announced the 2020 events will not happen. Bike the West tried to merge the two popular rides after the America's Most Beautiful was postponed earlier this year. They were to take place on September 13 but current COVID-19 restrictions and setbacks with reopening phases governed by local, county and state health agencies have led them to postpone and move to 2021.

One-percent sales tax increase for South Lake Tahoe to be added to the November ballot

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - City Council approved unanimously at their meeting Tuesday to send what is being called the "South Lake Tahoe Fire Protection, Emergency Response, City Services Measure" to the ballot in November.

If voters approve the measure, a one-percent sales tax increase will be added in the City of South Lake Tahoe to all taxable purchases to meet funding shortfalls, according to the City.

Douglas County Recreation opens up their Lake Tahoe Youth Day Camp

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In response to Governor Sisolak’s announcement of the State entering Phase 2 of COVID-19 recovery, Douglas County Community Services has announced the reopening of child care programming, Lake Day Camp, at Kahle Community Center starting on Tuesday June 23, 2020.

Registration open for South Lake Tahoe Junior Giants virtual summer season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Summer baseball leagues across the county will be different this year due to COVID-19, and the South Lake Tahoe Junior Giants program is no different.

The City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Department has teamed up once again with the Giants Community Fund to offer a free, modified Junior Giants Baseball Program for the 2020 baseball season for youth ages 5-18.

The program features a Digital Dugout offering coaching sessions including physical activities, lessons on health and wellness, reading incentives and character development.

South Lake Tahoe robbery and car theft leads to arrest of two suspects near Fresh Pond

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two different crimes in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday turned out to be related and the alleged suspects were arrested near Fresh Pond, California.

On May 20 at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers from South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the 7-11 at 2620 Lake Tahoe Boulevard after receiving a call of a robbery. Upon arrival, the clerk told officers a man and a woman had walked into the store with black masks on, approached the counter where the female demanded money.

Tahoe Chamber endorses three candidates for Douglas County commissioner

STATELINE, Nev. - Three candidates for the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners have been endorsed by the Tahoe Chamber Board of Directors: Larry Walsh, Nathan Tolbert, and Danny Tarkanian.

Walsh is seeking reelection for District 3, Tolbert is a candidate for the open District 5 seat, and Tarkanian is running for election against incumbent Commissioner Dave Nelson in District 1.

South Lake Tahoe library offering story time and other digital services while closed

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though the El Dorado County library in South Lake Tahoe is closed to the public to comply with social distancing requirements, many services including storytime are offered online.

Library cards that are due to expire have been extended. All books due during their closed times will be accepted after reopening with no late fees. Their drop box is closed so no books can be dropped off.

Aging and caregiver educational series in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) is bringing a free five-week-long Aging and Caregiver educational series to South Lake Tahoe from April 13 - May 11, 2020.

The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older.

On Sunday, March 1, it is AAA and Majors Warm-Up Clinic in the South Tahoe High School Gym. Go "knock off some rust" before player evaluations on March 15 and 22 (reserve time for those two dates here).

The AAA players clinic will run from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Majors will hold theirs from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

26th annual Banked Slalom at Kirkwood this weekend

The 26th annual Banked Slalom hosted by Kirkwood Mountain Resort and driven by GMC returns on Saturday and Sunday, February 22-23. The race takes place in Kirkwood’s Snow Snake Gully, known for its challenging natural terrain.

Race operations will once again be executed by KSEF.

Day one of the event is designed for kids and families. Race categories include 8 & under, 9-12, 13-15, 16-19 and Family category, which combines the time of parent and child.

CANCELED - Go Pink at Heavenly for South Lake Tahoe cancer patients at Barton

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 2nd annual Pink Heavenly will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The Barton Foundation is inviting community members and visitors to register now and start fundraising for the fun event.
