Cram-A-Cruiser event for Bread & Broth 4 Kids a huge success

A local group has expanded to help accommodate the hundreds of food insecure school aged children in South Lake Tahoe. Many in the community are already familiar with Bread & Broth, a group of volunteers that serves hot food to those in need on Mondays and emergency bags of food.

In order to help the children, St. Theresa's Bread & Broth 4 Kids was created out of what was once known as Page and Sage. Since 2012, Page and Sage supplied a weekly bag of food and a book to local children every Friday, but with such a large need in the community, they needed to grow and Bread & Broth was there.

The group held their first "Cram-A-Cruiser" event at Grocery Outlet in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, September 26, and the community came out in force to help.

The police car ended up overflowing with soup, chili, juice, applesauce, crackers, cereal, peanut butter and much, much more. Hundreds of pounds of food was generously donated to help kids get needed nutrition. Kids who get enough food to eat are more likely to do better in school, have fewer discipline problems and have less worry in their young lives.

Each week, the bag that goes home with the children has 13 food items: breakfast, dinners, lunches and snacks, a total of 1,300 items of food needed each week.
