November 2, 2017 - 6:00pm
Sierra House Elementary Principal Karin Holmes will be awarded the Woman of Distinction Award at the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund (TWCF) annual Membership Celebration Dinner on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino.
The theme of this year’s dinner is, “The Power of Education in our Community,” and Dr. Guy Lease will be this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Lease served as the Superintendent/President of Lake Tahoe Community College for 18 years until he retired in 2008 after 26 years at the college. He has also served on many statewide community college boards and commissions over his esteemed career in the education field.
Tickets are on sale now for $35 each and can be purchased online at tahoewomenscommunityfund.org. Everyone is welcome to attend and it is the perfect opportunity to get to know the organization if you are not a member.
Holmes is receiving the group's inaugural Woman of Distinction Award. She is in her 29th year working for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. The South Lake Tahoe native started her career in education at Sierra House Elementary as the school’s physical education (P.E.) specialist. She has also served as the 6th Grade P.E. teacher at South Tahoe Middle School, and coached cross country running, Nordic skiing, and track at South Lake Tahoe High School for 10 years. For the past four years, Holmes served as the assistant principal at South Tahoe Middle School before making the transition to her current role as principal at Sierra House. We are excited to honor this incredible woman and her service to the South Lake Tahoe community.
In 2017, the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund granted $29,000 to various nonprofit
organizations in the South Lake Tahoe Community. This year, through a very generous gift of $100,000 from Ms. Lisa Maloff, we will be matching membership money dollar for dollar, doubling our collective giving power for 2018! Everyone is welcome to join the fund and can sign up to become a member online at tahoewomenscommunityfund.org or in person at the Membership Dinner. Each member receives one vote on our annual ballots, and 98.5% of our funding goes directly to grants and the endowment fund so we can continue to give each year.
All members must join by the end of the year to receive a vote in the 2018 granting cycle.
