Cooler but mostly sunny week ahead in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Warm autumn weather continues before a cold front brings breezy winds Tuesday and Tuesday night followed by much cooler temperatures Wednesday and Thursday. Widespread freezes will occur Thursday and Friday mornings. Next weekend should be mild and dry, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Warm fall temperatures on tap for Monday after a cool morning with light winds. It begins to change Tuesday with increasing winds ahead of a strong, dry cold front. Some lake concerns are possible with the stronger winds.

The strong cold front will move through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Timing is overnight north of I-80, around sunrise for the 80 and 50 corridors to late morning across Mono/Mineral Counties. Winds will be gusty overnight.

Behind the front it will turn much cooler with afternoon temps in the 40s and 50s areawide. Gusty northeast winds are likely behind the front over the Sierra ridges. It remains 15 to 20 degrees below average for Thursday before gradually warming back to near average for next weekend.

Monday - Sunny, with a high near 73. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

Monday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 36. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 39. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 53.

Wednesday Night - Clear, with a low around 19.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 50.

Thursday Night - Clear, with a low around 20.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 59.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 27.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 62.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 30.
