Wind and chance of snow in the weekly forecast for South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a High Wind Warning in place from 10:00 p.m. Monday to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. The winds begin to increase Monday out of the northeast as a mostly dry low pressure system drops into the region according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Expect northeasterly flow to ramp up Monday night with damaging winds possible for the Sierra. Temperatures will cool back toward seasonal averages early this week with better potential for precipitation heading into the final week of January.

Temperatures will warm back up Wednesday into Thursday with mostly clear skies and light winds to the area before a more active weather pattern sets up for the weekend and into next week.

The next cold front is expected to slide into the the Sierra and western Nevada from the north in the late Thursday into Friday time period. This will bring much cooler temperatures back to the region along with breezy winds and some snow. However, the mostly overland trajectory, will limit the overall precipitation amounts. The trajectory does bring plenty of cold air, so most all the

precipitation that does accumulate will fall as snow.

Martin Luther King Day - Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 44. Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Monday Night - A 20 percent chance of snow after 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. Windy, with a northeast wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.

Tuesday - A 20 percent chance of snow before 10am. Sunny, with a high near 37.
Breezy, with an east wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 17. East wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 47. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 24.

Thursday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.

Thursday Night - A slight chance of snow after 4am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Friday - A chance of snow, mainly after 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 37.

Friday Night - A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.
