The Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) will hold a public hearing on October 9 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss a proposed $52 per parcel per year tax to fund needed apparatus, equipment, and supplies. They are going to ask voters on March 3, 2020, for the annual tax increase for fire protection, suppression, and emergency medical services.
The special LVFPD Board of Directors hearing will be held at Fire Station 7, 2211 Keetak Street in Meyers.
If approved by the voters, the tax will be added to property taxes on July 1, 2020. It will add an estimated total annual revenue of $432,900. The Board of Directors will establish an “Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee” to conduct an annual, independent performance audit to ensure that the revenue collected through the special tax has been spent only for the purposes in the ballot measure.
Resolution 2019-06 Calling for and Giving Notice of an Election to be held on March 3, 2020, for the Submission to the Qualified Voters a Proposed Special Parcel Tax to Fund the Purchasing, Maintaining, Replacing, or Leasing of Fire Apparatus, Equipment, and Supplies for Fire Protection and Suppression and Emergency Medical Services.
