Revised medical marijuana rules being worked out, committee sets next meeting

Event Date:
October 23, 2017 (All day)

The last meeting of El Dorado County's Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee was a packed house, with a majority of those in attendance made up of cannabis growers in the area, and more of the same is expected at their next meeting.

One of the organizers, County Supervisor Sue Novasel of the South Shore, said all participants were respectful of each other's opinions. "It was a good meeting," said Novasel. She said many were concerned about a proposed registration procedure.

The next Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee will meet Monday, October

23 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Board of Supervisor's meeting room to discuss commercial cannabis licensing (both medical and recreational) in El Dorado County and a proposed recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors for November.

The meeting room is located at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville.

The committee is comprised of Novasel and fellow supervisor Michael Ranalli. They have been collecting information at each of the meetings from different stakeholder groups, members of the public, and County departments regarding each meeting topic (e.g. taxation, compliance, etc.).

The goal of changes to the ordinance is to ensure those who follow the County’s cultivation rules could safely use their medicine and the individuals not following the County’s cultivation rules would be brought into compliance. The committee and stakeholders had agreed that the first step in providing a safe environment for medical users of marijuana and their neighbors was to create an effective enforcement process.
