Nevada Day festivities include parade, carnival and contests

Event Date:
October 31, 2015 (All day)

Nevada became the 36th state on October 31, 1864, just in time for the North to win the Civil War using the needed income brought to the Union from the state's silver mines. On October 31, 2015, Nevadans and visitors will be heading to the state's capitol to enjoy the Nevada Day events.

The festivities begin at 8 a.m. with a hot air balloon launch on Carson Street near the Carson Mall. After a military fly-over at 10 a.m., 184 parade entries will move through Carson City beginning at the intersection of Highway 50 East/William Street and Carson Street and will end at the intersection of Stewart Street and Carson Street.

Local law enforcement and public officials start the parade, followed by plenty of floats, marching bands, and a variety of entertainment. There will be food vendors along the route. Since it is such a long parade it is advised to bring chairs or arrive early and find a spot to sit on the curb.

The RSVP Nevada Day Carnival is at Mills Park in Carson City through Sunday, November 1. All day wristbands are $30. For more information, visit the event website.

There is also the Annual Chili Feed, pancake breakfast, beard contest, run/walk, ghost walk, historic tours, railroad museum car rides, and rock drilling contest among other events.
