Truckee native joins Barton Psychiatry

Dr. Tracy Protell, child and adolescent psychiatric specialist, recently joined Dr. Sonia Rupp at Barton Psychiatry in South Lake Tahoe. Providing comprehensive psychiatric and psychological diagnostic evaluations and treatment services for children and adolescents, Dr. Protell treats patients with developmental, behavioral, emotional and mental disorders.

“Every child should have the opportunity to succeed to the best of their abilities,” Dr. Protell said. “Many psychiatric disorders affect children and adolescents’ ability to enjoy and succeed at school and at home. With proper diagnosis and treatment, I believe these kids can flourish and accomplish their goals.”

She brings years of experience in the latest research and therapies related to Autism, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, mood and other psychiatric disorders associated with medical conditions in children and adolescents. Dr. Protell received her undergraduate degree at University of California, San Diego; Doctor of Medicine at University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed her training and residency at University of Pittsburg Medical Center.

“South Lake Tahoe is a big change from my last five-years living in Pittsburgh, PA, but prior to that I attended medical school in Reno and had grown up in Truckee,” she said. “I do feel as though I am returning home and am so glad to be back.”

As a native of Truckee, CA, Dr. Protell, naturally, became an avid skier and snowboarder during the winter months and she wakeboards, water skis, hikes and golfs during the rest of the year.

“There is no better place to enjoy the outdoors than in the Tahoe area,” Dr. Protell said. “I love living in the snow … and have found that "mountain life" affords a less stressful and more enjoyable lifestyle.”

Dr. Protell is currently accepting child and adolescent patients by referral only. For more information, please call Barton Psychiatry at (530) 543-5691. Barton Psychiatry accepts most private insurances.
