Veterans Day Ceremony at American Legion Friday

Event Date:
November 11, 2016 - 11:00am

The American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe invites residents and visitors to join their members in honoring all veterans on Veterans Day on Friday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Legion Hall.

November 11 commemorates the anniversary of the peace agreement that ended World War 1 in 1918. Historically, veterans are remembered in the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time the guns fell silent on 11/11/1918.

“Veterans Day is a time to remember the end of World War I and the brave Americans who served in the war to end all wars,” said American Legion Post 795 Commander Matthew Panks. “It’s also an opportunity to honor all veterans who continue to serve our country and make sacrifices every day fighting the war on terror in hundreds of locations around the world so we may enjoy our freedom here at home.“

Vets in Counseling will be placing flags on graves of the 500 veterans buried at Happy Homestead Cemetery in the morning of Veterans Day.

The ceremony is hosted by both the American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary. Refreshments will be served. The American Legion Hall is located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe.
