SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe invites residents and visitors to join members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion in honoring all veterans this Veterans Day. Their ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe. Light refreshments will be served.

Prior to the ceremony, the local veteran’s group, Vets in Counseling, will be placing American flags on gravesites at Happy Homestead on November 7. If interested in volunteering to help them place flags on the graves of the over 560 veterans buried there, meet at the cemetery on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 9:00 a.m. Happy Homestead is located at 1261 Johnson Boulevard.

Formerly Armistice Day, November 11 commemorates the anniversary of the peace agreement that ended World War I in 1918. It is historically significant that this day continue to be observed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh month of the eleventh day to commemorate when the guns fell silent at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918.

“Veterans Day is a time to remember the end of World War I and the brave Americans who served in the war to end all wars,” said American Legion Post 795 Commander, John Lingar. “It’s also an opportunity to honor all veterans who continue to serve our country and make sacrifices every day fighting the war on terror in hundreds of locations around the world so we may enjoy our freedom here at home.“

The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion are actively seeking new members. For more information, please stop by Post 795 or give us a call at 530-541-8788.
