Active weather pattern in store for Lake Tahoe Basin through weekend

As we start a busy week of travel, three different storms headed to the Lake Tahoe Basin may impact driving conditions. People are driving, flying or taking a train to their Thanksgiving destinations and AAA expects more than 40 million people will drive 50 miles or more for Thanksgiving, the most since 2007.

Some of those travelers are headed to Lake Tahoe though hotel rooms and vacation rentals are still available.

The first of the storms is a fast moving one that has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for Lake Tahoe from Tuesday 10:00 p.m. to Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. The heaviest snowfall will likely be overnight between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Snow accumulations of 1-4" at lake level, with 4-8" above 7000 ft. Snow will also fall to the valley floors Tuesday evening..

Snow showers will leave the area Wednesday, leaving clear travel conditions on Thanksgiving Day with the next wave of storm forecast to arrive late Thursday night/Early Friday morning.

There is a 70 percent chance of snow and rain on Friday, with snow before 10:00 a.m. and rain during the day.

This will be the weather pattern over the weekend as a possible third storm arrives Sunday.
