Tahoe Film Festival returns to the North Shore

The 5th annual Tahoe Film Fest presents an incredible selection of new feature films and documentaries on various topics, as well as important award-winning environmental films. Several filmmakers introduce their works. The event is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy almost thirty films and interact with other film aficionados.

All proceeds from the festival, which runs on the North Shore from December 5-8, go to support educational programs at the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center.

Opening night is Thursday, December 5 and starts with the showing of "Marriage Story" with Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Merritt Wever, Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Ray Liotta and Julie Hagerty.

Midway – Special Screening - starring Woody Harrelson, Aaron Eckert, Ed Skrein, Dennis Quaid, Mandy Moore, Luke Evans, Nick Jonas, Darren Criss, and Patrick Wilson. Director Roland Emmerich was a guest at the 2nd Tahoe Film Festival.

Eating Animals, narrated by Natalie Portman

The Story of Plastic, a seething expose uncovering the ugly truth behind the current global plastic pollution crisis.

The Pollinators - Bees are at devastating risk from a number of environmental hazards.

Right To Harm - Story of five rural communities. The film exposes the devastating public health impact factory farming has on many disadvantaged citizens throughout the US.

The Condor & The Eagle - The film documents the stories of four well-known Native environmental spokespeople who are at the forefront of a perspective shift in the identity of their people, from forgotten voices to powerful and influential leaders.

The Map to Paradise - an adventure-filled and spectacularly gorgeous tale about the birth of the global movement to protect the sea.

Artifishal - a film about people, rivers, and the fight for the future of wild fish and the environment that supports them. It explores wild salmon’s slide towards extinction, threats posed by fish hatcheries and fish farms, and our continued loss of faith in nature.

The River and the Wall - follows five friends on an immersive adventure through the unknown wilds of the Texas borderlands as they travel 1200 miles from El Paso to the Gulf of Mexico on horses, mountain bikes, and canoes.

Out of Bounds: An Epic Mountain Journey - Follow Australian Olympic snowboarder Torah Bright as she heads from her home in the foothills of the Australian Alps, deep into Alaska’s glaciated Chugach mountain range. Jeremy Jones will be in attendance.

Honeyland - In a deserted Macedonian village, Hatidze, a fifty-something woman in a bright yellow blouse and green headscarf, trudges up a hillside to check her bee colonies nestled in the rocks. The 2019 Sundance Winner Grand Jury Prize.

N. Scott Momaday: Words from a Bear - This riveting documentary charts the life, career and legacy of the prolific and enigmatic Navarro Scott Momaday, a revered Native American author whose work earned him a Pulitzer Prize and established him as the founding force behind the Native American art and literature renaissance.

Echo in the Canyon - A look back at the influence and the music of artist The Byrds, The Mamas & the Papas, Buffalo Springfield, and The Beach Boys from Southern California’s age of innocence (1965 – 1967); the beginnings of Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon music scene, and how the echo of these artist’s creations reverberated between each other and ultimately across to London (where it alters the course of The Beatles themselves.)

Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice - Ronstadt is our guide through her early years of singing Mexican Canciones with her family; her folk days with the Stone Poneys; and her reign as the “rock queen” of the ’70s and early ’80s.

David Crosby: Remember My Name - A revealing and deeply personal documentary exploring the life and creative renaissance of music icon David Crosby. A cultural force for over fifty years, Crosby faced uncertain future after the 2015 dissolution of Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Clarence Clemons: Who Do I Think I Am? - After Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s marathon “Rising Tour” came to an end back in 2003, saxophonist Clarence Clemons felt like he needed a break. Though the world knew him as The Big Man, The Minister of Soul, The Secretary of The Brotherhood, and a lifetime member of the E Street Band, there was also a deeply spiritual side to Clemons.

Chicuarotes - In this audacious crime drama from the celebrated Mexican actor turned director Gael Garcia, lifelong friends Cagalera and Moloteco turn to violence and lawlessness to buy their way out of their hard-scrabble Mexico City neighborhood.

Collisions - Twelve-year-old Itan’s promising life in San Francisco is turned upside down when she comes home from school one day with her younger brother to find their apartment ransacked and her mother taken away by immigration police.

Harvest Season - Filmed over the course of a single season, the inner-workings of the California wine industry and the laborers who keep it running are at the forefront of Emmy-award winning filmmaker Bernardo Ruiz’s enlightening documentary, Harvest Season.

Raul Julia: The World’s a Stage - A revealing portrait of the charismatic, groundbreaking actor’s journey from his native Puerto Rico to the creative hotbed of the 1960’s New York City to prominence on Broadway and in Hollywood.

Purchase tickets online or at the screening location on the day of the show. Individual film tickets are available or buy an All-Access Pass that is valid for all films and VIP events. Online ticket sales end at midnight the night before each film’s showing. Tickets will be available each day at the theater box offices, 15 minutes prior to the start of each film, subject to seat availability.
