UPDATE: The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue decorated truck will run again in 2020. Once repairs are completed a schedule will be released.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The longstanding tradition of the decorated South Lake Tahoe Fire Truck making the rounds through neighborhoods will be taking a year off due to COVID-19.
The tough decision was made due to safety and protecting participant's health.
Each night a firefighter's family would hop on the truck with Santa and hand out candy canes. The fact that so many different people would be in the truck and increased contact with the public with candy canes led them to canceling the 2020 Holiday Truck.
SLT Fire Rescue said the truck taking to the streets would be promoting gatherings that are not currently allowed.
Lake Valley Fire decided to have their decorated truck this year but they will not be handing out candy canes. They start on December 11 and the schedule can be found here - http://southtahoenow.com/story/11/18/2020/lake-valley-fire-releases-holiday-truck-schedule.
