Some Sierra House students will move to Al Tahoe this week; rest head over Dec. 17

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is now a new plan for students at Sierra House Elementary School, one that will require some to move over to the Al Tahoe site sooner than expected.

After the November 11 fire at Sierra House and a follow-up meeting with parents there have been almost nightly update emails alerting the community of progress in getting the school back into a safe and healthy location.

On Tuesday, Belfor started bringing their Conex trailers to the upper pod playground behind the school. So far, five containers and a trailer are in place and more will arrive throughout the week.

On Wednesday, December 12, third grade classes will begin to be bussed over to Al Tahoe from the Sierra House site. They will come to Sierra House as they do every day and they will get on the bus at the start of school at 9:00 a.m. They will follow their regular class schedule and eat lunch at the Al Tahoe Site. Students can be picked up from Al Tahoe at 3:10 p.m. or at Sierra house at 3:25 p.m. Those who take the bus home will get on their normal bus at Sierra House and all students who attend Boys and Girls Club will simply remain at the Al Tahoe Site.

Starting Monday, December 17, the entire Sierra House campus will close and move over to the Al Tahoe site and split schedule days will commence. Childcare will be provided by the Boys and Girls Club between 9:00 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. if the split schedule does not work with parent's schedules.

Students are on Christmas vacation from December 24-January 6, giving crews three weeks to get work done at the school without students there (though there are some holidays involved where work would not be conducted). It is estimated repairs could take up to five weeks, possibly January 17. According to Steve Brennan, the LTUSD environmental engineer who is heading the project, he is meeting with the project manager on December 12 to try to nail down a schedule.

No students are to be dropped off or picked up at Sierra House starting the 17th.
All transportation will be to and from The Al Tahoe site.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District transportation department is working on final adjustments to the bus schedules and will be made available to parents once completed.

The schedule for students is as follows:

· Kid Zone drop off 7:30 a.m. main entrance
· Student drop off begins at 8:30 a.m.

Kindergarten first and second grades: School begins at 9:00 a.m. and classes run until 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served from 12:30-1:00 p.m.

Third, Fourth and Fifth grades: School begins at 12:00 p.m. with lunch being served. Classes run until 4:00 p.m.

Students who receive the Bread & Broth 4 Kids weekend food bags will receive them at the Al Tahoe site on December 20.
