Sierra House students could have split schedule at Al Tahoe until mid-February

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The third graders from Sierra House Elementary are now at the Al Tahoe school site, and on Monday, December 17, the rest of the students will join them. At first it was believed that work could possibly be completed by the time students return to school after the holiday break but now that the hired restoration specialists are getting into the walls and ceiling the scope of work has increased.

Belfor cannot commit to the scope of work until the crews get into their job, so the plan is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. As of today, the
plan is to hold all classes at the Al Tahoe campus on the split schedule from December 17 through February 15.

The split-schedule has been created so all students can fit into the smaller school which currently houses the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club.

The schedule for students starting on the 17th is as follows:

· Kid Zone drop off 7:30 a.m. main entrance
· Student drop off begins at 8:30 a.m.

Kindergarten first and second grades: School begins at 9:00 a.m. and classes run until 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served from 12:30-1:00 p.m.

Third, Fourth and Fifth grades: School begins at 12:00 p.m. with lunch being served. Classes run until 4:00 p.m.

Childcare will be provided by the Boys and Girls Club between 9:00 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. if the split schedule does not work with parent's schedules.

No students are to be dropped off or picked up at Sierra House starting the 17th and all transportation will be to and from the Al Tahoe site.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District sent home paperwork with students Thursday to help clarify schedules and bussing. They have asked families to send back the second page of the packet with all students by Friday. This two-sided page addresses the plan for children regarding pick-up and take-home routines. If students weren't at school the information is available here - http://sierrahouse.ltusd.org/.

Sierra House suffered major damage to a part of the school during a November 11 fire. Restoration includes new walls and ceilings in the upper pod hallway and reading room as well as removal of all books, soft goods and furniture. Conex containers are already at the school and will be where items removed will be going through a several step process which includes air and ozone cleaning. All remaining surfaces will receive heavy duty cleaning.

According to Steve Brennan, the school district's recovery project manager, they have been in close conversations with Belfor regarding the scope of the work needed to get Sierra House cleaned and operating at 100 percent capacity.
