Kings Beach man dies in accident at Northstar

3::45 p.m. update: The Kings Beach man killed in an accident at Northstar has been identified as 35-year-old Dennis Baltimore, a ski instructor at the resort. His Facebook page says he was also once a Zipline Guide at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe.

According to reports, Baltimore had been on his skis on Village Run about 12:00 p.m. when a snowboarder in front of him hit a patch of ice and lost control. He tried to avoid the snowboarder but he crashed into rocks and a creek bed.

Baltimore's girlfriend Jillian Torrez has started a GoFundMe page to cover his funeral expenses.

An accident at Northstar California on Sunday has claimed the life of a 35-year-old Kings Beach man who worked at the resort.

According to resort officials, a serious incident happened on a beginner trail at the North Lake Tahoe area resort. Ski Patrol responded as did the Northstar Fire Department, both providing emergency care to the unidentified employee.

“Northstar California Resort, Northstar Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our employee’s family and friends; we are all devastated by the loss of this member of our team,” Nadia Guerriero, Northstar California Resort’s vice president and general manager, said in a statement given to SouthTahoeNow.

The man — whose name has yet to be released pending next-of-kin notification — was pronounced deceased by the Northstar Fire Department.

As of 11:00 a.m. Monday, no more information has been made available.

This was the second death over the weekend at a Lake Tahoe area ski resort. On Sunday, a body was recovered at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, believed to be that of a 64-year-old skier who was caught in an avalanche Sunday.
