Winter Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Lake Tahoe Basin from Friday, December 13 at 4:00 p.m. to Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m.
A series of systems will bring additional rain and snow to the region through Sunday, starting with a relatively warm system Thursday into Friday morning. It will bring gusty winds to western Nevada with rain and very high elevation snow for the Sierra and portions of northeast California, according to the National Weather Service.
A colder system Friday evening into Saturday morning will bring lowering snow levels with increasing travel impacts for Sierra passes. Mainly rain is expected for western Nevada. This is the part of the storm that will bring the heaviest rain and snow totals but it is still modest by Sierra standards. Snow totals in
Farther south into Mono County, 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible for the high Sierra with a dusting up to 2 inches for communities and passes along US-395. For northeast California, lower liquid totals along with high snow levels will limit snow accumulation.
The coldest system is expected by Saturday afternoon or early evening into Sunday with snow possible down to all valley floors. Snow totals for lower valleys will be minimal and those places that do get snow are likely to only receive a dusting up to an inch.
The low in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday night will be 8 degrees.
The four-day forecast from NWS-Reno:
Thursday - Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Thursday Night - Rain likely before 4am, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Friday - A chance of rain and snow before 10am, then rain. High near 43. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Friday Night - Rain before 10pm, then rain and snow. Low around 28. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday - Snow likely. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Saturday Night - Snow likely, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Sunday- A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 33.
Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 8.
