Thanksgiving Day weather and road report for South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first storm front of the season has passed by Lake Tahoe, leaving behind a couple of inches of snow at lake level just in time for your Thanksgiving Day turkey celebration.

The sun has been peaking out Thursday morning ahead of the next system.

There is a Wind Advisory in effect from noon today to 7:00 p.m. Friday. This replaces the High Wind Watch previously in effect. Winds will increase this afternoon, becoming strong by late afternoon with a secondary peak on Friday. They will be from the southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Gusts up to 100 mph expected for Sierra ridgetops. Wave Heights on Lake Tahoe expected to be 3 to 5 feet. Avoid recreational boating activity on area lakes due to dangerous conditions.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect rom 4:00 p.m. this afternoon to 10:00 a.m. Friday above 7000 feet. Expect moderate to heavy snow with an additional snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches expected above 7000 feet through Friday morning with localized areas up to 20 inches along the crest. Highest totals expected west of Highway 89.
