Minden woman facing charges after ramming car into store

Normally when a car rams into a gold store it is part of a robbery, but this wasn't the case Thursday afternoon with 74-year old Cheryl Smith of Minden, NV. She allegedly rammed her car into the Nevada Gold and Coin shop and ended up in the middle of the business where six employees were on duty.

When Douglas County officers were dispatched to an incident at the shop they were first told that there may be an armed robbery in progress. What they found though was that Smith had rammed her Pontiac Grand Am into the brick building three times before getting inside. The wall collapsed as the vehicle entered, preventing her from backing out.

No one was injured during this incident; however Smith was transported to the medical center for evaluation. She was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, assault with a deadly weapon and felony destruction of property.

The extent of damage to the building is substantial and the cost to repair the building is unknown at this time.
