A Time of Giving: The South Lake Tahoe Community Helps Others Through Christmas Cheer

You've most likely seen the bins around town, covered in wrapping paper and notes asking for toy donations for Christmas Cheer. The call for toys being needed for children in the South Lake Tahoe community went out, and the community responded.

On Saturday, volunteers from Christmas Cheer, Soroptimists, South Tahoe High S Club, the Marriott, St. Theresa's Catholic Church, the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and other community members sorted through the bags and bins of toys, getting them ready for distribution. More volunteers are needed to help pass out the food and toys on Sunday and Monday at the makeshift distribution center at South Tahoe Middle School's Multi-Purpose Room from 10 am to 4 pm both days.

Te 2nd Annual Holiday Parade organized by South Lake Tahoe City Councilwoman JoAnn Conner's business, Golden Bear Events, also raised money and gathered donations for Christmas Cheer. Conner said they were able to donate $462 to the charity as well as several barrels of food, toys and warm clothing.

Many other groups, individuals, and businesses, as well as the South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts and the Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority gathered donations over the last few months. Due to need throughout the year, the charity is now known as Christmas Cheer All Year.
