Abundant mid and high clouds and periods of gusty winds in the high Sierra are expected through the weekend, leaving Lake Tahoe with party sunny conditions for Christmas. Abundant mid and high clouds and periods of gusty winds in the high Sierra are expected through the weekend.
A very weak system is passing through Northeastern California and Northern Nevada next week, and with it comes a very slight chance of snow coming into the Lake Tahoe Basin, but more precipiation will be staying near the Oregon border.
No big Pacific storms are on the horizon through the end of 2017 as a high pressure ridge remains parked off the West Coast. Temperatures 5-10 degrees above average can be expected.
In the long run, from late Friday into Saturday, a glancing blow from a fast-moving system over the Pacific Northwest will bring some increase in winds,
especially over higher terrain. Winds may be sufficient for increased mixing, especially north of Highway 50, which could serve to clear out any pollutants that build up in valleys mid to late week. Precipitation chances are minimal per current simulations, especially south of Susanville and Gerlach.
