More terrain opening at Lake Tahoe resorts

With no storms are on the horizon and snow-making operations ramped up, both Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California have unwrapped more terrain for holiday skiers and riders, and they are joined by other area resorts with plenty to do for holiday visitors.

At Heavenly, Canyon Lift and Ridge Run will open on Tuesday, December 26. On Christmas Day they had a reported 21" base with 18 lifts and tows. Access is from the California Base, Heavenly Village Gondola in California, and from Stagecoach on the Nevada Side. You can ski from top of Sky Express to the Nevada side, but return to California Base is via Skyline Trail, Maggie’s to Patsy’s Lift with downloading Gunbarrel or the Tram. At the top of the scenic gondola there is also snow-tubing and sight-seeing.

The Backside Express and Burnout expert trail opened Christmas Day at Northstar. On Monday, they had a reported base of 18-30” with 17 lifts and tows opened. They also offers cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, telemarking and fat dike bikes.

Over at Sierra-at-Tahoe, they report a base of 13-39” with 7 lifts and tows in operation. Sierra also offers snow-tubing.

Kirkwood reports a base of 26” with 13 Lifts and tows open on Christmas Day. They also offer cross-country skiing and guided snow shoe tours.

Adventure Mountain at Echo Summit offers 40 acres of terrain for sledding, tubing, and snow play. They currently have six runs open.
