Sunday - Monday weather system not leaving much behind in Lake Tahoe Basin

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A colder storm moving into California Sunday will produce some areas of snow but accumulations around Lake Tahoe will be minimal. Most of the snow from this storm will be hitting south of Tahoe in the Mammoth Mountain/Mono Lake area where a Winter Weather Advisory is in place.

Best bet for snow remains near and south of US-50, but spotty showers could lead to localized accumulation as far north as a Susanville-Lovelock line according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Up to two inches of snow on I80 and US50, and for the eastern Sierra including Alpine and Mono counties, snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are possible, with up to 8 inches for higher elevations.

The system moves in Sunday night and exits Monday afternoon.

The next system arrives late Wednesday-Thursday, but will be more of a nuisance with limited moisture available, said NWS Reno. Previously, this system came in the form of a moisture tap into the Pacific Northwest with the Sierra and northwest Nevada on the southern edge of warm overrunning moisture. This wave is fast moving and lacks appreciable moisture. Snow totals don`t look like more than a few inches in the Sierra with generally a dusting for portions of western Nevada.
