South Lake Tahoe's Lighthouse Community helps out SnowGlobers

The death of 19-year old Alyssa Byrne during the 2013 SnowGlobe event in South Lake Tahoe is still on people's minds, especially now that the temperatures have dropped into single digits with wind chills expected to take them down into negative figures.

Nick and Kadi Alfield wanted to do something this year in Byrne's memory, so they had a booth at SnowGlobe that not only charged cell phones but also gave away gloves, scarves and hats to attendees who were cold.

The Alfields are members of Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship as well as their own Lighthouse Community. "We want to share and show people they are loved," Nick said.

The couple works in the service industry locally, Nick at Basecamp Pizza and Kadi at both Diamond Resorts and Zephyr Cove Resort. Both of their employers, friends and church members have helped them gather the buckets of cold weather gear to have on hand during SnowGlobe.

During the first night Monday, all of the scarves and most of their other items were given away so they turned to the South Lake Tahoe community to gather more items to give away.

Many also took advantage of the couple's booth to get a bottle of water.

Nick's boss, Ted Kennedy, owner of Basecamp Pizza, brought much appreciated pizza by to the volunteers.

Look for them to be back next year.
