Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation Food Fest on Oct. 8
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 10/02/2011 - 5:11pmThe Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation's annual Food Fest will be Saturday, October 8, 6:30 to 10 PM, at Harrah's Convention Room. More than 18 local eateries plus area beer and wine suppliers will be serving there. Also, there will be a silent and live auction with items ranging from art to food to exotic vacation accommodations. Advance tickets are $35 each, available at each local LTUSD school, at the LTUSD District Office on Al Tahoe Blvd., and at the Fox gas station on Highway 50 at Takela.

With the potential of up to 10 inches of snow possible in the Sierra above 7,000 feet, a winter storm watch has been issued, according to the latest from the National Weather Service in Reno.

Motorcycle and large truck collide near Kirkwood
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 09/23/2011 - 2:47pmA motorcycle apparently collided with a large truck this afternoon in the Carson Spur area near Kirkwood Mountain Resort and State Route 88.
According to police scanner traffic, the motorcyclist was pinned underneath the truck, possibly a big rig. A CALSTAR air ambulance was dispatched to the accident scene. A ground ambulance was, at last report at around 2:40 p.m, to transport the downed cyclist to a zone cleared for CALSTAR to land.

To a crowd of about 200, the South Lake Tahoe City Council met to hear the 2011-12 Budget Proposal from its city manager and finance director on Thursday. There was an obvious tension between the council and members of the public who attended the meeting, though the general sentiment of the council and city manager is that the deficit issues are not their fault, and that employee sacrifice is what is required to balance the budget.

Road projects tangle traffic on Highway 50, Pioneer Trail

It will be double-trouble for South Lake Tahoe motorists over the next few weeks, as roadwork is expected to cause delays on the city's two main thoroughfares.
On Sept. 14, Caltrans began working around-the-clock on its $40.6 million Highway 50 project within the city. Crews are grinding and paving the road between Fremont Avenue and Trout Creek. Lane closures are planned between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with traffic diverted to the eastbound lanes during paving of the westbound lanes, and vice versa. Motorists can expect up to 10-minute delays.
Thunderstorms move over Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 09/11/2011 - 5:31pmA band of thunderstorms, carrying pea to marble-sized hail, heavy wind and lightning has moved over the Lake Tahoe region late Sunday. The National Weather Service in Reno began tracking the strong thunderstorm system near Carnelian Bay on the north side of Lake Tahoe nears Kings Beach.
The storm, moving southwest at around 10 mph, carries many lightning bolts, moderate rain amounting to about one half inch per hour, which is reducing visibility in the basin to less than three miles.
Douglas authorities arrest man on abduction, attempted sexual assault charges on a child

Deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 21-year-old Jacob Wilcher on charges of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault. At approximately 11:40 am on Sunday, Douglas County deputies were dispatched to a call of an attempted child abduction at the Lifepoint Church, in Minden.

Paddlers Help Protect Lake Tahoe from Invasive Species

Paddlers at Lake Tahoe who enjoy the peace and solitude of skimming over crystal clear waters can now join the Tahoe Keepers stewardship community to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species, according to an invasive species multi-agency committee.
Tahoe Keepers is a free training program designed to help non-motorized watercraft operators guard against inadvertently transporting aquatic invasive species to water bodies within the Lake Tahoe Basin by self-inspecting and decontaminating their boats and gear after each use.
Tahoe agency encourages property owners to control stormwater
