Below is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. This report is for the week of Dec. 12-18. The Lake Tahoe record for Mackinaw Trout is a 37-pound, 6-ounce (44 inches in length) trophy caught by Robert Aronsen, way back in 1974. To date, only a handful of Macks have been caught that have weighed 30 pounds or more.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The ultimate Christmastime crowd-pleaser show will see its final performances at the Viking Theatre at South Tahoe High School’s Tahoe Arts and Design Academy Dec. 14-15 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. It’s the holiday favorite musical production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas performed by the students of South Tahoe High School’s Performing Arts Department.

Well, maybe not that dramatic but there is the potential for some gusty gusts and big waves along the shores of Lake Tahoe over the next 24 hours or so.
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Wind Advisory and Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin through Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on proposed summer projects at Heavenly Mountain Resort. These projects are consistent with the improvements identified in Heavenly's Master Plan Amendment and are intended to improve the overall quality of the visitor experience. In addition, these projects would provide for high-quality summer recreational uses of National Forest System land as directed by the Ski Area Recreational Opportunity Enhancement Act of 2011.

Catch Rock n’ Roll legend Joan Jett live in concert with her band, The Blackhearts Saturday, Nov. 17 at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at South Shore Lake Tahoe. Joan Jett has an astonishing eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles over her career, including the classics, “I Love Rock N’ Roll,” “Bad Reputation,” and “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” Doors open at 8 p.m. Show starts at 9 p.m.

Powerful early-season storms combined with the area’s largest snowmaking operations have allowed Vail Resorts’ Lake Tahoe mountains – Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort – to open early with 111 acres. Heavenly and Northstar will open on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with a combined seven lifts and eight trails, totaling 51 acres.

The 2012 American Century Championship continues to benefit Tahoe South as the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority distributed $64,500 to 23 non-profit groups through funds raised during the annual celebrity golf tournament.

18 homes closed escrow on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe in October, 2012. This figure shows that interest in real estate at the lake is still strong. To date for the year there have been 127 homes to close escrow in that area, up from 118 in 2011 and 113 in 2010.

It has been a very busy week for the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit. Numerous backcountry visitors were caught off guard with the arrival of this weekend’s inclement weather.
Approximately 60 SAR volunteers along with four Sheriff’s deputies responded to 11 different deployments between Friday and Wednesday. Nine of the SAR events were within the borders of El Dorado County while two were in Alpine County.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation at Lake Tahoe has opened registration for the 2012 – 2013 competitive and development ski and snowboard programs. With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online and at the HSSF building.

Follow the money trail on the “Hole” fiasco and you will find a mess. When the hole first stopped all of the reasons that were given by Randy Lane were false, wrong and an outright lie to the people of South Lake Tahoe. The real reason work was stopped was due to the two liens filed by two Nevada companies that did work and never got paid. In California when there is a lien on a job all work stops until the contractors are paid, no money no work.

Top gaming executives from around the world with gather in Lake Tahoe next week to sharpen their management skills, discuss current topics relevant to the gaming industry and hear from industry experts. They will also spend time all week preparing to face off against one another in teams at the end of week, in a competition where each team has to address a hypothetical, gaming-related management challenge – a battle of the best in gaming.

A team of partners from the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program is scheduled to begin implementation of the largest Asian clam control project in the history of Lake Tahoe on October 15, with plans to treat an area of up to 5 acres at the mouth of Emerald Bay.

Lake Tahoe area road delays and closures are effective now through Sunday for the Lake Tahoe Marathon. The following roads will experience delays:

The American Century Championship will distribute $65,000 to Lake Tahoe South area charities, officials announced Monday.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation, the celebrity golf tournament’s nationally designated charity, in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, NBC Sports and American Century Investments, will provide funds to area non-profit organizations for specific needs to help make a difference in the community.
