Nevada Side of South Lake Tahoe Sees Orderly Crowds, Early Morning Stabbing

Overall, the 4th of July was busy but things went pretty well according to Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini. "A lot of people enjoyed the 4th in Lake Tahoe," he said. "We scheduled a lot of deputies to handle the extra crowds and didn't see a lot of problems. We managed well and were prepared."

Nevada Beach has been an alcohol free beach for the holiday since the 1990s which is something Sheriff Pierini said needed to be done. "Having that ordinance made a big difference," he said.

South Lake Tahoe police make seven arrests July 4 and early Friday

As we do each year, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department bolstered our patrol staffing to meet the emergency response needs of our crowded City during the Independence Day celebration.

There were squads of officers patrolling the beaches, assigned to traffic duties and extra officers assigned to work a variety of areas throughout the City. Although the City was quite full with holiday revelers, the number of calls for emergency police responses was fewer this year than during many past years.

Douglas County authorities report few problems with Lake Tahoe July 4 revelers; 24 arrests countywide

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports the 2013, 4th of July celebration in Douglas County and around Lake Tahoe went well.

The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved. Motorists were cooperative with the road closures and traffic control required for the fireworks display.

Fourteen arrests during Stateline Lake Tahoe New Year's festivities

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports the New Years Eve celebration in the casino core area of Stateline, Lake Tahoe went as planned with 14 arrests made.

The celebratory crowd seemed no larger than in past years. Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 11:00 p.m. for public safety reasons. The celebrants were allowed to flow into the roadway as they celebrated the coming of the New Year. The Nevada side of U.S. Highway 50 was cleared of celebrants at 12:20 am and was reopened to vehicle traffic at approximately 1 a.m. after the crowd peacefully moved off the roadway.

Few overnight DUI arrests on Northern Nevada highways during critical New Year's holiday stretch

More than 275 traffic enforcement stops were made by Nevada Highway Patrol troopers on Northern Nevada highways in a 10-hour period from 7 pm Monday until 5 am Tuesday morning.

Only seven motorists, or roughly three percent, stopped during that timeframe were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Many of those motorists stopped were designated drivers for passengers riding in the vehicle who were celebrating the New Year and had already consumed alcohol.

Authorities prepare for Lake Tahoe New Year's Eve party at Stateline

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is readying itself for the upcoming New Years Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe beginning Monday, Dec. 31. Each year upwards of 60,000 celebrants ring in the New Year in the casino core area of Stateline, Nev.

Due to the ordinarily high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during the event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.

Travel and safety tips for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays

With Christmas and New Years Day each falling on a Tuesday this year, most families may be planning one or both holidays into a four-day event and traveling out of the area or staying near home and celebrating locally. Long holiday weekends generally means more motorists traveling on our state’s roadways thus increasing the calls for service for our agency. Please assist us with our highway safety efforts this holiday season by always driving with safety in mind first, being courteous to others motorists, and never drink and drive.
