Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/24/2012 - 9:14amThe Nevada Highway Patrol reports investigating 65 crashes associated with the 2012 Street Vibration motorcycle rally which had riders attending events between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
There were no fatalities associated with the annual motorcycle rally, according to NHP. Reno police however, were investigating a Sunday morning fatal crash on Plumb Lane. It is unknown if that was related to the motorcycle rally.
El Dorado County authorities investigate fatal shooting in Placerville

A 37-year-old man was found dead in the 3100 block of Lo Hi Way after a report to dispatch that a gunshot was heard and that a man armed with a handgun had been shot with a shotgun.
No arrests have been made and the dead man's identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
Authorities discover marijuana grow operation in Douglas County foothills near Jacks Valley
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 08/15/2012 - 2:47pmA large marijuana grow area was discovered near Jacks Valley in the Toiyabe National Forest along the eastern foothills, Douglas County authorities said Wednesday.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is looking for three suspects associated with the grow and have warned that the men are hiding in the forest and may emerge at any number of locations in Douglas County, including Glenbrook on the Lake Tahoe side.

Authorities on Saturday found the suspect at 12:30 p.m. in an apartment on Blackwood Trail after interviews of those associated with the alleged suspect. Two other arrests were made.

If he does, it means Derek Penaranda will likely have died.
Penaranda’s parents are hoping and praying their son will survive the beating he sustained in a South Lake Tahoe bar last weekend. Today he is clinging to life in a coma at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Long-time Lake Tahoe lawman Les Lovell retires

The notions of keeping peace and preserving justice were always on his radar and for 30-plus years, the now-retired senior lieutenant for the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Lake Tahoe Branch fulfilled his commitment.

Washoe County Sheriff's detectives worked a collaborative investigation with the Placer County Sheriff's Office and the Truckee Police Department to serve a search warrant which led to the subsequent arrest of a man who authorities believe may have been involved in a string of burglaries around Lake Tahoe since 2007.

The Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force, working in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team (SET), the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, and the Santa Cruz California Police Department arrested 26 year-old Joseph Perez and 25 year-old Oscar Madriz, both of Santa Cruz, California, on charges of trafficking and sales of cocaine. The arrests were made on March 2.

There were 10 arrests during the celebration and a DUI arrest outside the casino area, said DCSO Sgt. Jim Halsey.
Among the charges were disorderly conduct, trespassing, minor consuming alcohol, battery, domestic battery, battery on a peace officer and civil protective custody.

Attorneys General Kamala D. Harris of California and Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada announced Tuesday that their states have entered into a joint investigation alliance designed to assist homeowners who have been harmed by misconduct and fraud in the mortgage industry.

More than five years after the parents of a slain South Lake Tahoe teenager asked local authorities for help in solving the 1980 murder of their son, the case remains active and some remain hopeful the case could be solved.
Information that surfaced two years ago about the murder of Richard Swanson turned the cold case into an active one, with retired FBI agent Jeff Rinek and South Lake Tahoe police investigator Chuck Owens continuing their search for the killers.

The annual 2011 Street Vibrations motorcycle event created a lot of traffic on northern Nevada roadways resulting in numerous service calls for troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol. The Labor Day holiday weekend produced a high volume of traffic on northern Nevada highways resulting in a large number of calls for service. During the three-day weekend, nineteen people were arrested in the Reno-Sparks area with fifteen of those arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Troopers assigned to the Carson City area logged 3 DUI arrests. The DUI arrest activity for Lovelock, Fernley, Fallon and Hawthorne was not available this morning.
