Letter: Family Resource Center asks community for assistance due to COVID-19 impacts

The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center is busy assisting our community during these incredibly difficult COVID-19 times. This Holiday Season many members of our community are struggling with basic necessities to survive. So many members of our community work in the service industry in jobs such as; servers, waiters, bussers, housekeepers, maintenance personnel etc. Those industries have been impacted dramatically, especially with the updated governmental restrictions on in-door dining in California.
Popular South Lake Tahoe fishing derby canceled for 2020

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 18th annual South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge Kids’ Fishing Derby has been canceled due to the pandemic. The Lodge has sponsored the tournament at Lake Baron inside Tahoe Paradise Park for 17 years and said they feel it important to follow state and county guidelines to avoid group gatherings and the safety and protection of children is paramount.
The Lodge had been planning on having the Optimists Club as co-sponsors this September after the Optimists had to cancel their fishing derby at Sawmill Pond earlier this summer.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you are accustomed to paying premium prices for parking in towns like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento, how much would you be willing to pay for a parking ticket in Lake Tahoe?
Apprently whatever it costs.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued 297 parking citations along SR89 at Emerald Bay in July and 273 during the first 11 days of August. Six vehicles were towed from the area during this time.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif.,/Nev. - On Sunday, June 14 there is a Clean Up Bingo challenge hosted by Clean Up The Lake from noon to 4:00 p.m.
It is open to everyone who has the ability to post on Instagram (though cleaning is always welcome). @Cleanupthelake’s CLEAN UP BINGO encourages everyone to get out in the community, whether it is in your local neighborhood or favorite beach, and pick up some garbage.
Participants can win prizes donated by local businesses by filling up a special Bingo card.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With "Stay at Home" orders from the state down to the local government, many are learning to adjust to the things they took for granted just a month ago.
One of those is a trip to the grocery store.
Even with all South Lake Tahoe grocery stores open, it doesn't mean it should be shopping as normal, a.k.a. "pre-coronavirus days."
Most households don't have refrigerator or freezer space, or even cupboard space to not have to make a run to the grocery store once in a while. But the fewer trips one makes, the better it is to remain safe and virus-free.

In the time that it takes to text someone, pet your dog, or order a great meal at a local restaurant, something went very wrong. An ordinary day veered sideways and I was no longer on a relaxing vacation. I was working to save someone’s life.

New fire preparedness tools unveiled by the City of South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be another fire in California, but when and where cannot be predicted and is unknown - but what is known is there will be another community that is devastated by wildland fire.
Residents around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra know this all too well and have been talking about concerns of wildfire threats in and around the Tahoe Basin. Those conversations have turned into plans and the City of South Lake Tahoe has just released an interactive website to help both residents and visitors map out an evacuation plan based on their neighborhood.

A ReFresh of New Snow yesterday… Winter Weather Advisory posted, today thru Wednesday afternoon… Then, Winter Storm Watch from Wednesday afternoon thru late Thursday… 2-4 Feet possible above 7000 feet… Surface Conditions are holding up with Machine Groomed & Skier-Rider Packed Powder with Fresh Snow on top… Respect all Patrol Rope lines & Area Closures… Get After it!
