Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe event celebrates 20 years

The 20th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Snow or no snow, event activities begin with a guided tour starting at 9:30 am with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration if sufficient snow is present. Attendees should bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis.

Sierra Speaker Series: A Sentimental Journey Along Highway 395

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Sierra State Parks Foundation presents a presentation on covering the history of Highway 395. The March 21 talk will be held at the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center located at 12593 Donner Pass Road in Truckee, CA. The discussion will start at 5pm. There is a suggested $5 donation to attend and the State Park parking fee is waived for the evening. Refreshments available and book signing will occur after the presentation. Seating is limited. Come early to visit the exhibits and peruse the fabulous park store.

Holocaust Survivor & Author Leon Malmed to Speak

The Chabad at Lake Tahoe will welcome author and Holocaust survivor Leon Malmed for a special presentation and accompanying book signing of his memoir “We Survived … At Last I Speak”

In 1942, Malmed and his sister were separated from their parents in occupied France when Malmed was 5-years-old. His parents ultimately perished at the now infamous death camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and he and his sister never saw them again. Malmed eventually immigrated to the United States in 1964, and went on to live in New York for the next 18 years.

Author Kae Reed to sign and read from new book on Lake Tahoe scenic hikes

“The Dirt Around Lake Tahoe: Must-Do Scenic Hikes” takes readers on a journey to dozens of trails throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and beyond. Alpine lakes, wilderness peaks and waterfalls are the rewards.

Author Kae Reed, who originally published these articles in Lake Tahoe News, will be a guest of the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library on July 30. She will be reading from the book, signing copies and answering questions starting at 6pm at the library on Rufus Allen Boulevard.

Local author to hold talk and book signing at museum

Local author JoAnn Conner will be speaking and signing books at the Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum on Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. The topic will be "The Importance of Research in Writing." Conner will introduce her latest book, Death Song, and will have all three of her mystery novels available for sale. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Historical Society.

The museum is located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Included in this day during Apple Hill season will be historical fiction author JoAnn Conner and Ellen Osborne, the great granddaughter of John Calhoun 'Cock-eye' Johnson, the namesake of Echo Summit's Johnson Cutoff.

Author to present Emerald Bay and Desolation Wilderness book at historic estate

Author Peter Goin will be presenting a slideshow ahighlighting his latest book, Emerald Bay and Desolation Wilderness, in the Baldwin Museum at the Pope Baldwin Estates in South Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Heritage Foundation and Lake Tahoe Historical Society are presenting the evening's activities on Saturday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Goin is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and is currently a Foundation Professor of Art in Photography and Videography at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Sunday Morning With a Local Author at Camp Richardson

South Lake Tahoe JoAnn Conner will be at Camp Richardson on March 11 at 11:00 a.m. for "Sunday Morning With a Local Author."

Conner, who has written two books will be giving an author talk and book signing.

The first, Heartwood, is historical fiction centered in 1867 Bridgeport, CA, but also adds historical bits about Carson City, Genoa, and Virginia City. Information about the everyday life is historically accurate.

Rainbow Sprinkles to reopen in South Lake Tahoe

After their first year in business the owners closed for a couple of weeks to make some changes and are now excited to see the customers they've missed.

Author of "My Father's Big Toe" to give readings and autographs

Olympic Heritage Week Begins in Lake Tahoe

During the winter of 1960, athletes from around the world came to Lake Tahoe to participate in the Winter Olympic Games. The biathlon and cross country events were held in what is now Sugar Pine Point State Park. A celebration of the area's snow heritage begins Saturday with a series of events to showcase makes the region so special.

Sully Sullenberger returns to Lake Tahoe to speak at 23rd Lake in the Sky Air Show

For the second time in less than a year, Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III will speak at Lake Tahoe, this time as a special guest speaker of the 2012 Lake in the Sky Air Show, Aug. 24-26 at the Lake Tahoe Airport.
Sullenberger gained fame when he successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549, which had been disabled by striking a flock of Canada geese, in the Hudson River off Manhattan, New York City, on January 15, 2009. All of the 155 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft survived.

Writers Returns to Squaw Valley with a Great Line-Up of Literary Events
