Thousands of Burners head through Reno-Tahoe International Airport on way to Black Rock Desert

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) was a very busy place Monday as most of the 20,000 people expected to fly in for Burning Man 2019 passed through on their way to the Black Rock Desert.

Attendees to the annual event (known as Burners) were greeted at the airport RNO's therapy dogs, Paws for Passengers, who wore costumes for the day to bring smiles to arriving Burners.

Welcome activities are taking place all week at Air Playa Info, a welcome area staffed by local volunteers dedicated to assisting Burners.

Burning Man idea turns into Lake Tahoe business

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Have you ever wanted to experience Lake Tahoe from the comforts of a camper, enjoying the outdoors and campfires, while fishing for dinner outside your door that you'll cook on an open stove? Then cuddling up in bed with nothing but the sounds of nature outside to lull you to sleep?

Don't have the gear to make this happen?

James "Jay" Cooley and Alecia Baker do, and they are in business to help create those kinds of memories with Tahoe RV Rentals.

Choices limited on what to do with California's 102M dead trees

There are now an estimated 102 million dead trees in California, creating unhealthy forests that are prone to major and catastrophic wildfires. Even though funds are being allocated to remove many of them, where will that timber go?
For now, there aren’t many options because of what has transpired from the government since 1968.

In that year the Secretaries of Agriculture and Interior issued orders restricting the volume of timber that could be harvested from Federal lands in the West. It was updated in 1969 to limit the total harvested to 350-million-board-feet.

Six ways Burning Man will be different this year

Burning Man is always changing, and this year is no exception.

Some of this year's changes are pretty major, however, and have both attracted applause and criticism from invested Burners and other groups who are tied in some way to Burning Man.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) officials are asking Burning Man organizers to provide "excessive" comforts such as flushing toilets, washers and dryers, and vanity mirrors in a compound for high-level government officials staying in Black Rock City.

A Burning Man spokesman estimated the compound would cost the event more than $1 million, bringing its 2015 permit fees to about $5 million. The renderings of the compound obtained by the RGJ also show various accommodations set aside for VIP visitors but don't indicate who the visiting dignitaries will be.
