Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel Invests $5 Million in Renovations

What many locals remember as Embassy Suites, the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is still a thriving and vibrant part of the community. On April 1 of this year, the hotel owners, Ken Corporation, Ltd and management team, PHR Management, announced that they would be dropping the franchise agreement with Embassy Suites and become the Lake Tahoe Resort. Since then, they have been investing $5 million in property renovations and upgrading all 400 rooms in the nine-story all-suite hotel. The work is taking place in phases with completion planned for the winter season.

Last Chance for Public Input on Top Action Steps for Protecting Lake Tahoe

The Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee is concluding a survey to discover what the public thinks are the most important actions people can take to help protect the Lake Tahoe region. Results of the survey will be used to inform the creation of a new Tahoe area Environmental Stewardship Messaging Campaign. Philanthropy on Display at Tahoe Fund Annual Dinner: Over $300,000 raised

The love and support of Lake Tahoe was on full display at the Tahoe Fund annual Founders Circle dinner on Sunday August 18. They raised more than $300,000 for the organization and four Signature Projects around the Lake. Tahoe Fund donors were joined by Senators Dianne Feinstein and Harry Reid and Governors Jerry Brown and Brian Sandoval, as well as special surprise guest Vice President Al Gore, as the public and private communities joined together to celebrate the work of the Tahoe Fund to restore and improve the Lake Tahoe environment.

El Dorado to step up enforcement on out-of-county roadside vendors

Capitalizing on residents’ need for strawberries for tonight’s dessert, or those last minute anniversary flowers, roadside vendors are seemingly everywhere. But, who is that guy on the corner?

“We are seeing an influx of vendors from outside of the county,” said El Dorado County Agriculture Commissioner Charlene Carveth. “In most instances, roadside dealers are not selling produce that is locally grown, or in compliance with basic local and state food safety requirements.”

The survey results will be used to inform the creation of a new Environmental Stewardship Messaging campaign for the Tahoe region. Lake Tahoe aquatic outreach program receives national recognition

National recognition has been given to the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species watercraft inspection program once again, this time for the excellence of the public outreach campaign used to educate boaters about the program.

The campaign, directed by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Tahoe Resource Conservation District, received a Silver Anvil award Thursday from the Public Relations Society of America—the nation’s most prestigious public relations award.

Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers arrived to international recognition with the viral 2012 video for their "Van Session" cover of Hall and Oates "I Can't Go For That." The video features the band, in their van, performing the song on travel-sized instruments. A little over 22 years ago the small community of South Lake Tahoe was rocked with a tragedy that touched the hearts of most residents.

With a sense of disbelief, schools announced that Rory Hrbacek, Sandy Haynes, and Casey Wells had died in an accident on Pioneer Trail that also affected two other home-town boys, the driver and his front seat passenger.

It was difficult to find a person in our town who did not know either the boys or their parents. It was the greatest single instance of grief this town could remember.

Tahoe Prosperity Center welcomes two new team members

The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund announced Thursday the launch of the Lake Tahoe License Plate ‘Plate Spotter’ program to reward owners of Lake Tahoe license plates with free lift tickets during the 2013 Winter season. Tahoe plates spotted by official “spotters” and the general public will be entered to win free lift tickets every week until March 20, 2013. More than $350 Million Raised For and Against Ballot Measures

Political contributions for and against California’s 11 ballot measures have totaled more than $350 million. Much of the money is coming from wealthy individuals and outside organizations.
The campaign finance watchdog www.Maplight.org found one family responsible for almost a quarter of the contributions to California's ballot measures.
