Authorities prepare for Lake Tahoe New Year's Eve party at Stateline

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is readying itself for the upcoming New Years Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe beginning Monday, Dec. 31. Each year upwards of 60,000 celebrants ring in the New Year in the casino core area of Stateline, Nev.

Due to the ordinarily high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during the event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.

Christmas tree cutting permits sell out across Lake Tahoe Basin, continue on BLM land

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Christmas tree permits are sold out but tree cutting permits remain available on BLM lands in the Pinenut Mountains between Carson City and Yerington, the Clan Alpine and Desatoya mountains east of Fallon, and the Excelsior Mountains southeast of Hawthorne.

South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos see August gaming loss

Gaming profits for South Shore Lake Tahoe area casinos tumbled in August, falling 19.45 percent over profits during the same period last year, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Wednesday.
South Shore casinos took in a total gaming profit of $22,016,651 for the month, while in August 2011 they took in $27,331,777.
Statewide casinos saw a 3.11 decrease in "gaming win" over the same period last year, the state's gaming regulator reports. Nevada casinos took in gaming profits of $859,240,472 for the month of August. In August 2011 it was $886,835,278.

Douglas authorities seek help in Carson Valley burglaries

Two commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Lane sometime around 5 a.m. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store. Two cellular telephones, phone chargers and miscellaneous currency were stolen from inside. Click on images to enlarge.

Forest Service: Fire at Elks Point Road near Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe fully contained at 2.6 acres

UPDATE 8PM: The U.S. Forest Service reports Friday night that the fire burning on the Douglas County side of Lake Tahoe on public land off of Elks Point Road has been contained at 2.6 acres. Cheva Heck, spokeswoman for the Forest Service, said local government resources assigned to the fire are being released. An engine will remain at the fire site overnight. The cause of the fire is under investigation. "We have no reports with lightning or problems with power lines. The fire is believed to be human caused," she said.

July gaming 'win' for South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos dips slightly

Gaming profits for South Shore Lake Tahoe area casinos fell slightly by 0.58 percent in July, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported Monday.
Casinos in Stateline took in $29,635,805 in July of this year compared to $29,808,523 in July 2011. Casinos at North Lake Tahoe had a gain of 5.3 percent, while Carson Valley casinos, including those in Carson City, Minden and Garderville, dropped slightly, at 0.19 percent. The Las Vegas Strip was the big taker for Nevada casinos, with a 27.51 percent gain over 2011 figures.

Even as Carson Valley farmers are baling hay, Douglas County has been declared a drought disaster area by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos see 4.3 percent decline in April 'win' revenue

South Shore Lake Tahoe gaming "win" at Stateline casinos for the month of April was down 4.43 percent over April 2011 figures, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
North Lake Tahoe saw a steep decrease in win of 15.82 percent over 2011 figures, and the Carson Valley area, which includes Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville, had gaming revenue for casinos down 3.08 percent for the same time last year.
Year-to-date figures for South Shore Lake Tahoe remains in the plus category at 3.74 percent.

No additional judge in Douglas County East Fork Justice Court

The caseload at the East Fork Township in Douglas County does not require an additional judge at this time, Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins has decided.
The announcement was made public in a news release sent Monday.
State law requires that an additional judge be added to the township when it reaches 34,000 in population. According to Nevada's demographer, the population of East Fork Township is 39,907. In a letter written to the Legislative Counsel Bureau, Judge Perkins said:

Gaming win in January up for Tahoe, statewide

Gaming win statewide was up just over 2 percent in January compared to the prior year, according to the monthly Nevada Gaming Control report.

For the fiscal year, the state is up 1.24 percent over the prior year.

South Lake Tahoe say its gaming win jump 6 percent in January and 6.63 percent for the fiscal year, despite the lack of snow to draw in skiers to the area.

The Carson Valley area that includes Carson City was up almost 5 percent. For the fiscal year, the area is still down 1.5 percent.
