The Tahoe Resource Conservation District has released a series of educational posters which identify some of the biggest threats to Lake Tahoe Basin, as well as what visitors, residents and even kids can do to help. Titled “Tahoe’s Most un-Wanted,” the first three posters feature aquatic invasive species, fine sediments from runoff and invasive weeds, and are free to pick up or request for local schools, businesses and other organizations who would like to display them publicly.

On Wednesday morning Oct. 19, Elaine and I went fishing at Lake Tahoe for Mackinaw lake trout with our longtime good friend and sport fishing guide, Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters outfitted South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
“Gino” has fished Tahoe for some thirty years (the last 13 years as a fishing guide) and is one of the top, if not the top, guides at that lake.

Lake Tahoe Chocolate Factory and Cakes by Grace are throwing an open house party on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at their store in Stateline. The event will feature a live broadcast by KTHO radio, appetizers, tastings of desserts and treats, and wine from Apres Wine Co. Holiday items will be on display, including edible centerpieces, cakes, fudge and chocolate. Lake Tahoe, Reno to host Chinese Cosmos pageant

The event will take place in Reno and Lake Tahoe from Sept. 23-30, 2011. The contest moves around the world each year, last year taking place in Sydney, Australia. This is the first time the pageant has been held in the United States.

Amid voting for favorite websites, blogs, restaurants, American Idol contestants and more, residents of South Lake Tahoe have the opportunity to vote in an actual public election. Elections for the Lake Tahoe Community College board, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District board, the South Tahoe Public Utility District board and a ballot measure regarding recreation funds will all be decided by voters on Nov. 8.

The first of its kind Lake Tahoe Taco Eat-Off Challenge at MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa was won Saturday by Erik Irwin from Kings Beach. He ate 14 tacos in 10 minutes to take home $1,000 in cash. South Tahoe High School will celebrate the unveiling of its renovated Viking Bowl facility tonight by hosting Churchill County in a Northern 3A football contest.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on a field that has been converted from natural to synthetic turf and now has permanent lighting.
South Tahoe kicked off its season last Friday with a 35-12 victory at Portola, Calif.
Tonight will be the league opener for both the Vikings and Churchill County Greenwave (Fallon).
