New turf and lights, South Tahoe field unveiled tonight

South Tahoe High School will celebrate the unveiling of its renovated Viking Bowl facility tonight by hosting Churchill County in a Northern 3A football contest.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on a field that has been converted from natural to synthetic turf and now has permanent lighting.

South Tahoe kicked off its season last Friday with a 35-12 victory at Portola, Calif.
Tonight will be the league opener for both the Vikings and Churchill County Greenwave (Fallon).
In addition to football, South Tahoe's boys and girls soccer teams will play their home games at the facility.
The Vikings hosted their first version of "Friday Night Lights" football under portable lights on Sept. 10, 2010 against Lowry and followed that up with an Oct. 8 contest against Sparks. Both games attracted crowds of about 1,000.
