Novelist Josh Weil and Poet Travis Mossotti will be at Lake Tahoe Community College October 8 to present their lastest works. They will read selections from their works, answer audience questions, and sign copies of their books which will be available for sale.

Beers, brats, and music are on tap at Camp Richardson Oct. 4-5, as Oktoberfest returns to the shores of Lake Tahoe. Now in its 20th year the annual event will showcase seven different autumn themed brews ranging from Drake’s Hefeweizen to Ninkasi Total Domination IPA.

With blue skies and warm temperatures, many people were out enjoying everything there is to do in South Lake Tahoe this holiday weekend. Many events from a carnival to fireworks were held, giving people plenty to choose from.

One of these events was the 5th Annual Sample the Sierra Farm to Fork Festival. The main event was held at Bijou Community park on Sunday, with over 1,200 people enjoying food and drink from the region. There were 16 booths of local food, wine, beer and spirits as well as an artisan marketplace, live music and a cooking contest with a mystery box of ingredients.

In case you weren't aware, there is a contest in Nevada to determine the best tasting water in the state by judging bouquet, clarity and taste.

This year, after blind tastings and examinations, Douglas County Utilities was the coveted water award during the 2014 Nevada Rural Water Association Training and Technical Conference at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.

Summer months can be very challenging for our community blood program, so roll up your sleeves and show your support. To meet local hospital commitments blood banks need the help of about 125 donors per day.

On July 18th 15 of some of the world’s most legendary athletes and entertainers competed in Lake Tahoe for the Korbel Closest-to-the-Pin Challenge as part of the American Century Championship, currently being played at the Edgewood Golf Course. NFL Former Pro Bowl Quarterback Mark Rypien who was the inaugural tournament champion took home the title after teeing off from Hole 17 and placing his ball just seven feet away from the pin winning a $5,000 donation for The Tahoe Fund from the Korbel Toast Life® Foundation.

The 3rd Annual Race the Lake of the Sky hits the waters of South Lake Tahoe this weekend.

Started in 2012 by South Tahoe Stand Up Paddle, Race the Lake of the Sky is a premiere flat-water SUP race and was dubbed the top pick for the best stand up paddle event of the year in 2013 by pro SUP athlete Anthony Vela. The event offers a stunning location as the backdrop in drawing hundreds of participants, novice and elite alike. Various races include short course. They wrap it all up with a 14 mile race to Emerald Bay and Back on Sunday.

The Lake Tahoe Area Sierra Club is bringing back their Annual Fundraiser to the incredible Stonehenge residence in Echo View Estates on July 16th. The annual evening of wine, food, and entertainment will also feature several local artists.. The founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir (impersonated by Don Baldwin) will be making an appearance, celebrating the 100th anniversary of his death.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association is looking for an exciting new logo for the upcoming K-9 Trial in September 2014. We invite you to participate in our logo design contest. Submissions deadline is July 18, 2014.

Several Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Department of Public Safety, will be volunteering their time to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Hard Rock Café in Stateline between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and between 5 p.m and 9 p.m.

The NHP and DPS will be assisting the wait staff as they serve patrons in order to earn "special tips."

Many locals may remember the contest held several years ago to name the new Trolley that would provide transportation service along Highway 50 throughout South Lake Tahoe.

The seasonal trolley is still around but it no longer has a regular route along Highway 50. One may see an occasional trolley along it's old route, but it is just being used for breaks of the bus drivers.

You hear about wild weekends in Lake Tahoe, most of them based at a nightclub of the casinos. Here is your opportunity for a truly wild time when the Lake Tahoe Bird and Native Species festivals are held at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center.

On Saturday, June 7, the Bird Festival will include bird walks, a falconer with live birds of prey, an art contest display, migratory bird info as well as food, crafts and games. Something for all ages! it will be held at the Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, the Tahoe Area Sierra Club is sponsoring a Photo Contest.

The 1964 landmark conservation bill protected the most pristine wildlands for future generations. Today, there are nearly 110 million acres in the country that have been designated as wilderness. Desolation Wilderness, Mokelumne, Granite Chief, and Carson-Iceburg are all within a short drive of Lake Tahoe.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 6-9pm, Freshies Restaurant will be hosting their 14th Annual Local’s Appreciation Party to thank the community for their continued support and love.

The Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe presents the 8th Annual STARS OF TOMORROW talent show. This is a wonderful opportunity for performing arts students in South Lake Tahoe grades 9th-12th to express themselves in public for their families, friends, and the community. Scholarship Awards will be given for First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($750), Third Place ($500), and Audience Favorite ($250).

In a quest to make a difference, South Tahoe High School senior Brooke Georguson is collecting jeans that will be donated to homeless youth in the Reno/Tahoe community. On top of that goal, Brooke wants to collect the most jeans in the region so her school will be awarded a $10,000 grant.

Fresh off a gold medal win at Breckenridge's Dew Tour Saturday, local snowboarding champion Jamie Anderson spent time Monday with South Lake Tahoe students.

Today was a state holiday in Nevada in honor of the state's admission into the Union on October 31, 1864. The annual gathering to celebrate the heritage of Nevadans has been marked with a carnival, contests, dinners, dances and other events. The big highlight of the birthday celebration will be the 75th Annual Nevada Day Parade in Carson City on Saturday, October 25.

‘Tis the season to Empower Tahoe: the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ (www.tahoetryp.org) Annual Winter White FUNdraiser returns on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 6:30 - 10 p.m. at the Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe. The themed holiday party supports TRYP’s professional development programs like workshops and scholarships, while also raising funds for the Boys & Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe. The theme is the color white so all attendees are encouraged to wear white!

The 11th Annual Treat Street will be held on Halloween night at South Lake Tahoe's Pine Cone Acre Motel. This year's event is sponsored by the Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled (TACCD) and the Tahoe Sierra Kiwanis Aktion Club.

A Community Carnival will be help on Saturday, September 14 at the Recreation Center from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be live music, a pirate race, a cake walk, rocket launch, limbo contest and more. The carnival is hosted by Gerri Grego, a candidate for El Dorado County Supervisor.
