"Go Local and Win" is the holiday campaign offered the Tahoe Chamber to encourage people to shop in town and not off the hill, and by doing so shoppers can win weekly prizes.

The second winner was announced today, just for shopping on the South Shore and submitting her receipts. Edita Sirusaite won ski tune, demo or rental from Powder House and is now in the running for the grand prize at the end of the year. Last week, Jennifery Lay won the first weekly prize.

South Lake Tahoe local Karen had a Halloween to remember after winning the "Jeepers Creepers" drawing and $20,000 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe.

Throughout the month of October, Backstage Pass members who earned 25 gaming points received one entry into the Jeepers Creepers drawing on October 31 for a chance to win a brand new Jeep Wrangler, courtesy of Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, or $20,000 in cash. Players also had the option of swiping their player card on Saturdays for a chance to win up to 1,000 bonus entries or $1,000 cash.

Dawgs on the Run, a South Lake Tahoe non-profit, is continuing their series of fun, family and dog friendly walks with a costumed walk on Wednesday, October 14.

Wag, Waddle and Walk is the name of their monthly get-togethers which have been held all through town over the summer. Everyone is welcome to join them in the informal setting which always includes a test of a dog's skills (optional, so don't worry if your dog doesn't know any).

More than 250 people packed the Riva Grill Thursday night for Barton Foundation's 6th Annual Signature Cocktail Contest.

The winner of the event, Riva Grill's Erick Martinez, is no stranger to the podium. Attendees voted his Blue Linen “Best Cocktail.” The drink combined Tahoe Blue Vodka with lavender, mint, cucumber, and St. Germain. Martinez, who also received the most tips and was voted “Most Congenial Bartender.” Erick received “Most Congenial Bartender” in 2014 and “Best Cocktail” in 2013.

Ready to test your football knowledge with others? Think you can pick all the winners? The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe will give someone one million dollars if they can correctly pick 193 winners, or more, this football season.

Each week, participants must swipe their Backstage Pass card at the “Football Pick’em” kiosk to select winners for designated regular season pro football games.

They will award $500 to the person who picks the most games correctly each week, and the person who picks the most games correctly throughout the regular season will take home $2,500 in cash.

Sample Tahoe’s newest cocktail creations at the sixth annual Signature Cocktail Contest. Hosted by the Barton Foundation, the community event will take place Wednesday, September 23 at the Riva Grill at 5:30 p.m.

Contest attendees can sample an assortment of cocktails created by Tahoe mixologists who are comprised of bartenders from local establishments, each showcase a unique concoction with Tahoe Blue Vodka and have been known to add less traditional ingredients like cotton candy or potato chips.

Internationally bestselling author Garth Stein, whose book “The Art of Racing in the Rain” has sold more than 4 million copies and been published in 35 languages, will appear at Tahoe WordWave Oct. 9-11 at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe. His newest book, “A Sudden Light,” is set in a large historic house in the woods similar to Valhalla’s Grand Hall, the site of WordWave’s Friday night steampunk ball, held from 6-10 pm, kicking off with a Champagne reception with Stein. WordWave is a three-day festival held from Oct. 9-11, 2015 on the grounds of Valhalla at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe, CA. This literary mash-up will feature oral storytelling, theater performances and free readings, panels on craft, yoga, and a novel writing camp for kids. Highlights include a one-act playwriting contest, a Maker’s Station demo with bookbinding, letterpress, drum making, and found poetry and art. Ticketed events include a steampunk ball, workshops, and even a hike.

Dogs on the Run, a South Lake Tahoe non-profit, is hosting their monthly Wag, Waddle and Walk event on Monday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m.

The monthly dog walking activity brings together dog owners for a little exercise, optional competition and socializing. The on-leash walk starts at Al Tahoe Post Office parking lot and finishes at Sierra Pizza on Al Tahoe Blvd.

This family friendly event is for non-aggressive canines and people. Dogs must be on-leash and up-to-date on their vaccinations.

Lakeview Commons will be packed full of vendors, stand up paddle board racers, and excitement this weekend as South Tahoe Standup Paddle hosts the annual Race the Lake of the Sky.

This family friendly event attracts some of the world’s best athletes and has become known as the must attend flat water SUP race in the country.

The weekend races include a short course, long distance, team relay, grom races and the SUP Cross Sprint course as well as a race.

Several Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Department of Public Safety, will be volunteering their time to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California on Sunday June 14, 2014 in the Hard Rock Café.

During the two weeks the Tahoe Bike Challenge is going on in Lake Tahoe, there are community events almost every day, including yoga, group rides and movies. .

Every year for two weeks, hundreds of Lake Tahoe residents and visitors park their cars and ride their bikes to work, school, and for fun. Participants in the Tahoe Bike Challenge, which runs from June 1 to June 14, track their miles and join the friendly competition for fun prizes and bragging rights.

A proposal to ban coyote hunting contests in Nevada was rejected Friday by state wildlife officials.

After hearing from some 50 people for and against the idea, the Nevada Wildlife Commission voted 7-1 to deny a petition sought to end a controversial practice that gives cash or other awards to hunters who kill the most coyotes during so-called “coyote call” events.

Thousands of people have been voting on Facebook for the Northern Nevada Favorite Model's contest over the past several weeks and a South Tahoe High graduate ended up on top, winning by a few hundred votes.

Kelsey Adams, daughter of DR. Steve Adams and Colleen Karcher, has been modeling for several years. She entered the contest for fun, not sure of what to expect.

The Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort just west of South Lake Tahoe received 21" of snow during Friday's storm, setting up some good snow for their Solstice Celebration. The official first day of winter starts on Sunday, December 21 but Sierra-at-Tahoe got a head start with live music and a tree lighting ceremony.

For the past year, Terri Arnold of South Lake Tahoe has been creating promotional videos for the Carson Valley Story Teller series. Each of the nine completed videos (three are still in post production), show Arnold as she shows viewers all they can do in the area.
