Douglas County DA gets dismissal of OSHA violations surrounding Trump visit

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two citations issued by the state after President Trump's September 12, 2020 visit have been dismissed. They were both issued following his visit at the Minden-Tahoe Airport since the visit was during Governor Sisolak's emergency order that prohibited public gatherings of more than 50 people.

The State of Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Nevada OSHA) has agreed to dismiss the two citations after they were formerly contested by the Douglas County District Attorney who represented both parties charge, the County and ABS Aviation, Inc.

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler has asked the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office to look into allegations made by Councilwoman Brooke Laine in her opinion piece published on South Tahoe Now on April 15.

Uhler was asked by acting city manager, Fire Chief Jeff Meston to look into the content of Laine's disclosures. "I asked for that [the investigation] to occur to ensure transparency under my authority as City Manager," said Meston.

El Dorado County DA speaks out against sanctuary state bill

Vern Pierson, the El Dorado County District Attorney, testified against the "Sanctuary State Bill" in Sacramento on Wednesday.

Pierson spoke before the California Assembly Judiciary Committee.

"I’m strongly opposed to making California a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants," Pierson said. "Local, state and federal law enforcement officers need to be able to communicate with each other in regard to an important issue like immigration enforcement."

If Senate Bill 54 were to pass, state and local law enforcement would not be allowed to cooperate with immigration authorities.

Professional soccer player in critical condition after Lake Tahoe incident

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Life-saving resuscitation measures were performed on 20-year-old Matheus Silva, a midfielder currently playing with the Reno 1868 FC, after he was pulled out of Lake Tahoe where he had been swimming Tuesday morning.

According to Eric Guevin of Tahoe Douglas Fire, Silva was swimming at Zephyr Cove Resort at 6:00 a.m. when he called out for help. People in the area brought him to shore where CPR was initiated. When Tahoe Douglas Fire transported him to Barton Silva was breathing and had a pulse.

Abducted South Lake Tahoe children found in Mexico; father arrested

The father of two South Lake Tahoe children who failed to return them to their mother on August 15 has been arrested in the Rosarito Beach area of Mexico.

Scott Selger of Chula Vista, Calif., was arrested by the Baja California State Preventive Police on September 1 and the children were safely returned to their mother, Jenn Luckman Conant.

Investigators from several agencies had been searching for Selger and the children after their mother realized her children, 9-year-old twins Ava and Paolo, were not on their scheduled return flight home after visiting with their father.

On October 27, 2015, Sue Novasel, the County Supervisor representing South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Tahoma and Pollock Pines was served a “notice of intent to circulate a recall petition” by a group of citizens who said they are “tired of the corruption and cronyism that has plagued our county for years.” It wasn’t only Novasel, but all five of the County Supervisors, Shiva Frentzen, Ron Mikulaco, Michael Ranalli and Brian Veerkamp.

South Lake Tahoe man on El Dorado County DA's Wanted List

The El Dorado County District Attorney's office released their weekly "Wanted" list Wednesday, and Brett Matthew Bell is on that list.

"Bell is a habitual offender in the South Lake Tahoe area," according to their press release.

Bell is wanted for the theft of a 2015 Jeep Cherokee from the valet parking garage at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.

The 27-year-old is Caucasian, 6'0", 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Get a clean slate from the El Dorado County DA's office

People who had a misdemeanor or felony conviction in El Dorado County at least one year ago may be eligible to have their record wiped clean and get a fresh start, something needed in today's workforce.

A criminal conviction can also prevent a person from attending school field trips with their children and can present many other barriers.

Anger surrounds bear shooting in South Lake Tahoe

A 78-year old man has been identified as the person responsible for killing a bear found off Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Janice Mackey, Information Officer for the agency, told South Tahoe Now that the bear who died was responsible for several South Lake Tahoe residential break ins that had been reported multiple times. "The break-ins caused a lot of documented damage," said Mackey.

The Wa-Sha-Shu It’Deh Native American Festival returns to Valhalla at the Tallac Historic site this weekend, July 26 and 27. The festival celebrates the Washoe's ancient lifeways and their Lake Tahoe homeland.

The festival features traditional American Indian dancers and drum performers, basket weaving displays, art, and great food. The basket weaving competition features over fourteen different categories. The Washoe are highly regarded for their master craftsmanship of baskets and have had several well-known weavers throughout their history, including Dat So La Lee.
