There are several thousand deadly weapons on the streets of South Lake Tahoe every day.

This may seem like a drastic statement and I want to explain it. I'm not talking about guns or metal clubs, I'm talking about cars.

Have you ever waited at the intersection of Highway 50 and Sierra Blvd? How many times has someone rushed into the intersection against a red light as you were moving with your green light?

Local residents who are disabled and looking for work have free resources at the South Lake Tahoe office of Connections-One Stop. Special funding for school tuition, paid work experience, job training and other services ends August 30, 2014.

"The El Dorado County Connections - One Stop program can help disabled individuals search for a good job, develop a quality resume, enhance job interview skills and more," said Jenny Wilson, Program Supervisor for Connections - One Stop.

Lake Vista Apartments is a 4.6 acre, 64-unit deed restricted affordable housing project on lower Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, Nevada. It was built in 2000 under a special agreement with the TRPA to replenish the Nevada side's affordable housing stock after the number of units at the complex on Kahle Drive was dramatically reduced in order to restore the meadow. The complex was built on a USDA affordable housing tax credit program which specified a minimum of 15 years of affordable housing use.

‘Tis the season to Empower Tahoe: the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ (www.tahoetryp.org) Annual Winter White FUNdraiser returns on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 6:30 - 10 p.m. at the Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe. The themed holiday party supports TRYP’s professional development programs like workshops and scholarships, while also raising funds for the Boys & Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe. The theme is the color white so all attendees are encouraged to wear white!

A lawsuit was filed in federal district court today against the first significant update to environmental protection standards at Lake Tahoe since 1987, a move that rolls back the clock nearly that far on efforts to restore the Lake’s fragile ecosystem, according to the bi-state Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the defendant in the case.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will bring the Lake Tahoe community together to raise funds for Tahoe SkiDUCK, (SKi and snowboarding for Disabled and Underprivileged Children and older Kids) Saturday, November 10, from 7 - 10 p.m. at Riva Grill on the Lake.

The Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled is being recognized by area restaurants in celebration of the council's 31 years. The 10th annual Treat Street 2012, a safe trick-or treat event for children, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pine Cone Acre Motel on Highway 89 in South Lake Tahoe. Music, food, contests and an all-round weekend centered around the hometown will be featured at the Tahoe Mountain Faire, August 11-12 at the Tahoe Valley Campground, 175 Melba Drive in South Lake Tahoe.
Weekend festivities will feature food, games, a pie-eating contest and live music both days. This July, Squaw Valley welcomes the return of the Art, Wine and Music Festival with exquisite artwork, fine wine and internationally acclaimed classical and world guitar music.
