South Tahoe's girls soccer team set to defend state title Saturday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/13/2015 - 11:20pmDespite injuries which sidelined several varsity players, the South Tahoe Vikings' girls soccer team beat Spring Valley Friday afternoon, earning them a spot in the state final for Division 1-A teams.
The final score was South Tahoe 3, Spring Valley 1.
Earlier in the day, Truckee lost to Faith Lutheran 2-1.
South Tahoe Vikings are looking to three-peat as the Nevada Division I-A State Champs, and a win on Saturday would give them four state titles in just five years.

The Nevada State Tournament for both boys and girls soccer teams will be held in South Lake Tahoe Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14. Both of the teams from South Tahoe High are in position to play in the big game, but first they have to place in either first or second place in next weekend's NIAA 1A Northern Championships in Elko, Nev.
Whittell's Cole Snyder tops in state in 1600m and 3200m
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/16/2015 - 7:32pmWhittell High sophomore Cole Snyder wrapped up the Nevada State Track and Field Championships with two first place finishes and one fourth place for Division IV schools. Snyder won the 3200 meter on Saturday with a time of 10:28.77, the 1600 meter yesterday with a time of 4:51.53. His fourth place came in the 800 meter, just .58 seconds off the lead with a time of 2:08.54.
South Tahoe High Baseball Team still alive in NIAA-1A Tournament
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/08/2015 - 9:37pmThe South Tahoe High varsity baseball team took their 16-8 league record into the NIAA 1-A Northern League Baseball Tournament Friday, coming out of the first day of games still in the hunt for a state tournament bid.
If the Vikings get by Elko Saturday morning, they'll meet up with the number one seed Churchill County in the NIAA-IA Championship game.
Vikings fall short of a playoff appearance
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/14/2015 - 11:08pmIt was a close game for over three quarters in the gym at South Tahoe High on Saturday, but the visiting Fallon Greenwave prevailed in the end and beat the Vikings 60-44.
South Tahoe needed a win to continue their season in next week's playoffs.
The Division 1A playoffs will start on Thursday in Fallon at Churchill County High School.
The Lady Vikings had a different outcome in their game against Fallon. The girls won by a score of 49-41.
South Tahoe High basketball games are free on Valentine's Day
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/14/2015 - 12:13amDue to the generous donation from someone in the community, the South Tahoe High girls' and boys' basketball games are free on Saturday, February 14.
The Junior Varsity girls open up the day of basketball with their 10 a.m. game, followed by the JV boys at 11:30 a.m.
Varsity games get underway at 1 p.m. for the girls and 2:30 p.m. for the boys.
All games will be against Churchill County High School of Fallon, NV.
South Tahoe Viking wrestlers earn trip to state championships
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/08/2015 - 8:30pmThe South Tahoe Viking wrestling team made their trip to the 2015 NIAA Division 1A Northern League Wrestling Championships count on saturday, with five wrestlers qualifying for State next weekend.
Wrestling at 126 pounds, Junior Michael Valney beat Fernley's Dillon Maguin to bring home third place.
At the next weight class, 132 pounds, Senior James Sorenson also had a third place finish with his win over Lowry's Quint Bell.
South Tahoe Girls soccer team wins NIAA Semifinals; Championship match Saturday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/07/2014 - 11:41pmThe Lady Vikings of South Tahoe High extended their season at least one more day by beating Lowry Friday during the Division 1A Regional Semifinals. Freshman Annie Brejc had two goals on the day with Junior Ashlee Schouten and Senior Maia Bickert each kicking in one.
They are now 19-2-1 on the season and meet their league rival Truckee Wolverines for the Regional Championship. That match will be in Truckee on Saturday, November 8 at 2 p.m.
South Tahoe Vikings Host Division 1a Playoffs This Week
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/13/2014 - 7:31amFor the first time in 20 years, the South Tahoe Vikings varsity baseball team has made it to the Nevada State Playoffs. This is only the second time in school history for the team to make it to the post season, and the last time was in 1994, when current Viking coach Starbuck Teevan was a junior on the team.
They join Elko, Churchill County and Spring Creek in this weekend's Division 1a playoffs to be held Friday and Saturday at South Lake Tahoe's Todd Fields.
