The road to playoffs for South Tahoe High teams

The playoff picture has cleared up for the varsity teams from South Tahoe High, with soccer, cross country and volleyball all headed to playoffs. Results are also shown below for the tennis team's trip to State . last week

Soccer

The Nevada State Tournament for both boys and girls soccer teams will be held in South Lake Tahoe Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14. Both of the teams from South Tahoe High are in position to play in the big game, but first they have to place in either first or second place in next weekend's NIAA 1A Northern Championships in Elko, Nev.

South Tahoe's Boys

Taking their 8-1-7 record into the Northern Championships, South Tahoe, in the fourth seed spot, will play their first round on Thursday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. against fifth seed Lowry. Second round action on Friday puts the winner of that game up against the number two seed Elko team at 2:00 p.m. The final round will be held on Saturday, November 7 at noon. Both of those teams will head to South Lake Tahoe for the State Tournament.

Senior Marting Jimenez leads the Vikings with his 11 goals and 3 assists. Following Jimenez is junior Michele Crotta with 7 goals. Junior Antony Lopez has been at the goalie position in 13 games, blocking 33 goals.

They will play a non-league game on Monday, November 2 against Incline at 7 p.m. at STHS.

South Tahoe's Girls

The girls are headed to the NIAA 1A Northern Championships next weekend as well, earning a first round bye along with their rival, Truckee. First up for the Vikings is is the winner of the Sparks-Spring Creek game. Friday's Game time is 12:00 p.m. at Adobe Middle School in Elko. Their championship game is on Saturday, November 7 at 10 a.m. on the same field.

Truckee goes into the tournament as the #1 seed with their 14-1-1 record, followed closely by South Tahoe with a 13-1-2 record.

Leading the girls this year is Whittell High transfer, senior Kenya Brazzel with her 20 goals. Fellow senior D esi Benavidez and junior Emma Dayberry follow Brazzel with 12 a piece.

Goalie, junior Claudia Janese has played in 12 of the Vikings' games.

A non-league home game for the STHS girls will be on Monday, November 2 against 10-7 Incline. Game time is 5 p.m.

Cross Country

Boys
Senior Dillon Lemons led all Vikings at Saturday's NIAA Division 1A Region Championships held at Reno's Rancho San Rafael on October 31. He crossed the finish line in 17:53, giving him a third place finish, 28 seconds off the lead.

Girls
South Tahoe's Girls Cross Country team wrapped up their season Saturday in Reno. Top finisher, Sophomore Ally Sullivan, just missed placing in the top 5 by 9 seconds, giving her a sixth place. As a team, STHS finished in fifth place.

Volleyball

The South Tahoe Vikings head to Truckee High for the November 6-7 NIAA Division I-A Northern League Championships in the number five seed. Their first round match is against Churchill County, the number four seed, at 5 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that match goes up against number one seed Truckee on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The finals are played later that day at 4:30 p.m.

Seniors Nora Anderson and Paige Naccarato each have 61 spikes on the year for the 9-7 Viking. Sophomore Novel Moses has 145 kills, followed by Naccarato's 92. Moses also has a 36.8 ace percentage as a server.

The top two teams from the 1A Northern Championship head to the State Tournament November 13-14 in Henderson, Nev.

Tennis

The doubles team of Louis Marin and Mickey Sullivan won the NIAA Division 1A Northern Region Tennis Championship, giving them a ticket to the state tournament in Las Vegas October 22-24.

Marin and Sullivan made it to the semifinals after winning their first round 7-6(4), 6-0. They lost to eventual tournament winner, Clark, who was the number one seed from the South. They ended their season with a state fourth place.

Singles player Hawley Jarrett also made it to the state tournament, losing to Clark High's Michael Pasimio, who took first in state.
