On Friday, authorities obtained a warrant and arrested Cesar Caro, 19, at his South Lake Tahoe home. He faces charges of attempted murder in the June 27 incident. His bail was set at $150,000.

Tobacco Sales to Minors Drop in El Dorado County

A recent survey conducted in El Dorado County showed that fewer merchants are willing to sell tobacco products to minors compared to just two years ago. Of the 100 tobacco retailers surveyed countywide, only 11 stores sold tobacco products to youth, resulting in a sales rate of 11 percent. In March of 2010, a similar survey resulted in a sales rate of 14.5 percent.

South Lake Tahoe Police responded to a reported burglary of Patient To Patient, a marijuana collective on July 9 in the 2300 block of Lake Tahoe Blvd. The investigation revealed that two suspects broke into the collective during the night time hours of July 8, 2012.

Nevada man dies during Sierra Recon event

A 39-year-old Sparks man died during the Sierra Recon challenge on Saturday. Joseph Axtman collapsed on the course near the base lodge at Sierra-at-Tahoe on July 14. “He was going up a portion of the course and just collapsed,” El Dorado County sheriff’s Lt. Pete Van Arnum told Lake Tahoe News.

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors will begin its July 17 meeting with a Hindu invocation with verse from the world's oldest existing scripture, the first time since its 1850 incorporation. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the opening prayer from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before the leaders. After Sanskrit delivery, he then will read the English translation of the prayer. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages.

Full Time Law Enforcement Hits the Rubicon Trail

El Dorado County Sheriff D’Agostini has created a new position and assigned a full time deputy sheriff to patrol the Rubicon Trail, 40 hours every week, during the OHV season. In the past most of the staffing for the Rubicon Trail was on overtime, and was limited by grant funds.

Arrests made following Friday stabbing in South Lake Tahoe, 16-year-old in custody

A 16-year-old male has been taken into custody by South Lake Tahoe Police following a stabbing incident on Friday. Authorities on Saturday found the suspect at 12:30 p.m. in an apartment on Blackwood Trail after interviews of those associated with the alleged suspect. Two other arrests were made.

The El Dorado County grand jury is recommending a radical step, asking the cities of Placerville and South Lake Tahoe to consider letting El Dorado County absorb the services they now provide.
Noting that the two cities' budgets total more than $50 million, the 2011-12 grand jury asserts, "(t)here would be a substantial cost savings with consolidation of city and county services."

Victim in alleged murder-suicide feared for her life in 2007

A woman who investigators believe was killed by her husband in a South Lake Tahoe hotel room last week expressed fears he would kill her as far back as 2007, according to El Dorado County Superior Court records.
In a request for a restraining order filed in July 2007, Lyra Fisher-Bomediano said she feared she would end up dead at the hands of her husband, Aaron Fisher.

Suspect in South Lake Tahoe stabbing remains at large; victim suffers arm wound

UPDATE 6:11PM: One person was stabbed and a suspect is at large and being sought by South Lake Tahoe police Friday evening.
The stabbing happened at about 3:46 Friday afternoon in the area of 11th and Eloise. The suspect is described as late teens, a white male, without a shirt, wearing plaid white and blue shorts, a Boston Celtics ball cap being worn backwards, with a backpack and carrying a knife. The stabbing may have stemmed from an incident where the victim, a 22-year-old man, was riding a bicycle and the suspect was on a skateboard. The victim was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to his arm, said South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. David Stevenson.

El Dorado County Animal Services is advising pet owners to not leave dogs, cats or other pets unattended in vehicles during warm weather. According to Henry Brzezinski, Chief of Animal Services, if the outside temperature is 80 degrees or higher, temperatures inside vehicles can climb to 120 degrees or more within ten to twenty minutes, even with the windows opened two or three inches; heat stroke, irreparable brain damage and death can follow shortly thereafter.
