South Lake Tahoe police arrest man, two others sought in gang-related shooting

A South Lake Tahoe man faces an attempted murder charge and two others are being sought in what authorities said was a gang-related shooting in June that involved a pedestrian and a vehicle.
On Friday, authorities obtained a warrant and arrested Cesar Caro, 19, at his South Lake Tahoe home. He faces charges of attempted murder in the June 27 incident. His bail was set at $150,000.
Two other men are being sought, according to Lt. David Stevenson of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. They are Jahem Barton, 19, who has a felony warrant for his arrest, facing gang and weapons charges and Jamal Darrion Coffer, 21, who is being sought for questioning.

No one was apparently injured in the drive-by shooting in which South Lake Tahoe police investigators determined was gang-related that had happened between the male pedestrian and the occupant of the vehicle that drove past him.

South Lake Tahoe Police Make arrest in shooting case
On June 27, 2012 South Lake Tahoe Police responded to the area of Bonanza and “B” Street to investigate a possible shooting between pedestrians and a vehicle. Police officers arrived at the location and were unable to locate any suspects or victims involved in this incident. During the investigation officers determined a shooting had occurred and there was an exchange of gun fire between a pedestrian and the occupant of a vehicle which was driving past him. It does not appear that anyone was injured in this incident and no one has sought medical attention at the local hospitals for a gunshot wound.

During the subsequent investigation, officers were able to identify the participants in this shooting and determined that it was gang related. Felony arrest warrants were obtained for Jahem Barton 19 years of age, and Cesar Caro 19 years of age and search warrants were obtained for their residences. Jamal Darrion Coffer 21 years of age was also identified as being involved in this incident and a search warrant was obtained for his residence. In the early morning hours of July 25, 2012 the South Lake Tahoe Police Department SWAT Team attempted to arrest Barton at his residence and serve the search warrants at Barton and Coffers’ residences located in an apartment complex at 1946 “B” Street. Barton and Coffer were not at home and appear to have fled the area. During the search of the residences evidence of gang affiliation was found, however, no firearms were recovered.

In the early morning hours of July 27, 2012 the South Lake Tahoe Police Department SWAT Team served the arrest and search warrant on Caro at his residence located in the area of Glenwood and Fairway. Caro was found inside the residence and was arrested on the outstanding felony arrest warrant. During the search of the residence officers found evidence of gang affiliation but no firearms were recovered. Caro was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on a charge of attempted murder with bail set at $150,000.

A felony arrest warrant has been issued for Barton who is wanted on charges of 186.22, participating in a criminal street gang and 25400 (C)(3) PC, criminal street gang member carrying a concealed firearm. Coffer is wanted for questioning in this case.
