SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Meet Brynne Kennedy, the Democratic candidate for Congressional District 4 at a meet, greet and donate event at the Tahoe Beach Retreat & Lodge on Wednesday, February 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

District 4 includes all of six counties (El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Mariposa, and Tuolumne), and parts of four others (Fresno, Madera, Placer and Nevada). She is challenging the incumbent, Tom McClintock.

The Tahoe Beach Retreat & Lodge is located at 3411 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe.

Another record low in South Lake Tahoe: -8 on Friday morning

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In July 2018 there were record highs and now, seven months later, two days with record lows have been recorded in South Lake Tahoe.

The first record-breaker came on February 19 when the low of minus 13 broke the previous low of minus 8 which came 29 years ago in 1990.

The second record-break came Friday morning, February 22. The low of minus 8 was a surprise to many forecasters who had the low 18 degrees higher at 10. The previous recorded low was minus 5 in 2011.

The average for both Feb. 19 and 22 are a high of 39 and a low of 23.

Solutions being sought to alleviate tourist traffic in Meyers

Holiday traffic leaving South Lake Tahoe this weekend created another bottleneck in Meyers as well as on side roads throughout the area from those attempting to find a quicker getaway. The choices they made Monday created a three-hour drive from the Y in South Lake Tahoe to areas in Meyers.

Highway 50 over Echo Summit is designed to handle 1,200 cars per hour without any issues, but those numbers dropped Monday, February 19. Just how much they dropped is unknown as the traffic counters normally placed over the roadway are removed for snow removal.

Connie Wentz ~ Feb. 19, 1943 - May 10, 2017

Connie Wentz, age 74 of Gardnerville, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2017. She was born February 19, 1943 to Frank and Betty Jean Merrill.

Connie was raised in South Lake Tahoe where she met her husband, Thomas Wentz. They dated throughout junior and senior high school, and had been married for 46 years at the time of his death in 2006.

Connie loved gardening, cooking, traveling, her dogs, and spending time with her friends and family.

TRPA to survey locals and visitors about travel modes

UC Davis scientists trace particulate air pollution to its source

Scientists at the University of California, Davis, have, for the first time, developed a system that can determine which types of air particles that pollute the atmosphere are the most prevalent and most toxic.

Previous research has shown that air pollution containing fine and ultrafine particles is associated with asthma, heart disease and premature death. This new study, released today by the California Air Resources Board and the Electric Power Research Institute, marks the first time that researchers have conducted source-oriented sampling of these particles in the atmosphere.

South Shore transit case goes to mediation

It took the judge in the MV Transportation-STATA court case the entire day to finally tell all the parties they are going to mediation. U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Gregg Zive on Jan. 17 also ruled on a slew of motions. All parties have until Feb. 19 to let Zive know who the mediator will be and when the sessions will begin.

Douglas authorities identify Gardnerville woman found dead of gunshot wound; investigation is 'ongoing'

Douglas County authorities have identified the 31-year-old Gardnerville woman found Sunday with a fatal gunshot wound to the head as Rachel Ann Vargas.
Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said investigation is "ongoing" and "no additional details can be released at this time" regarding the woman's death, reported early Sunday morning, Feb. 19.
