City of South Lake Tahoe Hires New Administrative Services Director

City Manager Nancy Kerry today announced the selection of Mark Carlson as Administrative Services Director. Mr. Carlson is anticipated to begin his service with the City in early April.

The 2014 Quality Counts report that evaluates school systems in the United States gave Nevada schools a "D" on it's "chance for success" index. California received a C-. The national average is C+. Both states dropped from their 2013 scores.
The report has 6 areas they evaluate on: Chance for Success, K-12 Achievement, Standards, Assessments & Accountability, The Teaching Profession, School Finance and Transitions & Alignment.

The deal is for $115,929,375, according to UnofficialNetworks.com. As a result of the sale Whistler Blackcomb Holdings CEO, Bill Jensen, has tendered his resignation as well as directors Wes Edens and Jonathan Ashley.

The agency left dealing with South Lake Tahoe’s redevelopment issues is fighting the state Department of Finance regarding nearly a half million dollars.
More than $350 Million Raised For and Against Ballot Measures
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 10/30/2012 - 4:00pmPolitical contributions for and against California’s 11 ballot measures have totaled more than $350 million. Much of the money is coming from wealthy individuals and outside organizations.
The campaign finance watchdog www.Maplight.org found one family responsible for almost a quarter of the contributions to California's ballot measures.
"What's surprising is that a few individuals or wealthy organizations can control the political debate," said Daniel "G" Newman of the website.

Ruth Coleman, California parks director, resigns following scandal

SACRAMENTO — The director of California's state parks system resigned Friday after officials discovered that her department had $54 million in unspent money in its accounts that it had not reported to the state finance department.
Ruth Coleman, who had led the agency since 2003, stepped down, and the department's second-in-command, Acting Deputy Director Michael Harris, was fired.
California Resources Secretary John Laird planned a 1 p.m. news conference to address the issue and issued a statement saying the state Attorney General's Office would be investigating.

The board, with members Gov. Brian Sandoval and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto voting, approved the two-year contract with the California-based offices of Burson-Marsteller.

Solar Project No Short-Term Energy Panacea For Nevada Office Of Military

But today officials with the office won approval from the state Board of Examiners to seek $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to pay excess utility costs. The reason is because the solar energy being provided under the contract is costing the agency more than if it purchased electricity directly from NV Energy.

Nevada state Treasurer Kate Marshall said the state initially expected only 10 to 11 cents on the dollar when the firm filed for bankruptcy protection during the height of the nation’s financial crisis.

Vuletich, who was hired in October 2004 as the director of finance, has been responsible for the overall operation and oversight of the city's finance department, and has served as primary financial advisor to the city council and city manager.
