Holocaust Survivor Leon Malmed at SLT Library

The story of Holocust survivor Leon Malmed will be told through the animated documentary "The Promise" at the South Lake Tahoe Library on Wednesday,February 21, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

A group of advanced animation students from the College of the Canyons spent he entire Spring 2017 semester bringing to life the memories of Malmed, a South Lake Tahoe resident.

During Nazi occupation of Northern France, between the years of 1940 and 1945, Malmed and his sister lived in hiding, saved by a French family. The film documents Malmed’s experience as a child during those years of the Holocaust.

Celebrate holidays at South Lake Tahoe Library

Author JoAnn Conner Shares New Novel at SLT Library

The Friends of the Library present local author JoAnn Conner who will share the experience of getting her first book published. Conner's book, "Heartwood", is a work of historical fiction set in 1867 Bridgeport, California. The book tells the story of a young man who came west after the Civil War and stops in Bridgeport, where he buys an old ranch.Historical tidbits are laced through the story, with facts about Virginia City, Bodie, Genoa, and Carson City helping to build the tension to a surprise twist at the end. Books will be sold and signed at the event. Free and open to all.

About Being Homeless: Meet Blue at SLT Library

She is now a best-selling author, entrepreneur, and the Chief Sociology Analyst at The Analysis Project. She will be coming to the South Lake Tahoe Library to discuss her books, poetry, and the ordinary yet extraordinary madness of her life. Her books will be available for purchase. "July & Winter": Growing Food in the Sierra Presented at the SLT Library

Gary Romano, owner of Sierra Valley Farms presents his newest book, "July & Winter: Growing Food in the Sierra" at the South Lake Tahoe Library on May 20 at 2:00 p.m.

Romano shares his knowledge from decades of experience growing food in the Sierra Nevada. Despite the challenging mountain climate and soil, he has successfully grown food on his 65-acre organic farm and shares hard-earned tips, essential for home gardeners and small farmers.

This interesting, inspiring and free event is presented in partnership by the Friends of the Library and the UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe.

6th annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show

The sixth annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held April 28-29, 2017 in the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room.

Space is being increased to allow more vendors from the region to participate in the only event of its type on the South Shore. A free children's planting area is also being added to the two day show that runs from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m on Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m on Saturday.

Movie Night fundraiser to feature the Mob and Godfather

A unique fundraiser in South Lake Tahoe will feature a showing of The Godfather Part II, which was partly filmed in Lake Tahoe, and an opportunity to talk to Meyer Lansky II. Lansky is the grandson of the man known as the "Mob's Accountant," a major organized crime figure who, along with his associate Charles "Lucky" Luciano, was instrumental in the development of the "National Crime Syndicate" who inspired the movie character Hyman Roth.

Author and local historian Frank Tortorich will share his newest book, "John A. “Snowshoe” Thompson Pioneer Mail Carrier of the Sierra", a gripping account of the legendary life, legacy, and accomplishments of Snowshoe Thompson.

The author's knowledge and understanding of the Sierra emigration era serves as a background for what he has been able to express in this book. Join us in an amazing evening of history.

'Saving Lake Tahoe' author to lead book discussion at SLT Library

Soroptimists hand out donations to South Lake Tahoe non-profits

Members of Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) handed out checks to 22 different project that are created by non-profits to serve the women and children of South Lake Tahoe on Thursday.

Author and human trafficking expert to speak in South Lake Tahoe

John Vanek, author of the book, The Essential Abolitionist: What You Need to Know about Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery, will be speaking in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe library.

The Friends of the Library are hosting the free event which will feature Vanek, who is a retired lieutenant of the San Jose Police Human Trafficking Task Force. Vanek will address the most commonly asked questions and topics surrounding human trafficking and the challenges involved in fighting this horrific crime and assisting its victims.

Carolyn Batchelor 1946-2016

We lost a beautiful, vibrant spirit much too soon. Our beloved Carolyn Batchelor left us February shortly after Valentine's Day, and our hearts are broken.

Carolyn Wands was born in Nampa, Idaho. She was the only child of Dr. Robert and Eileen Wands. At the age of eighteen Carolyn moved to Ontario, California, with her husband, Steve Batchelor. She, Steve, and their children lived in Cucamonga and Crestline.

Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery Discussed at SLT Library

The Friends of the Library present author John Vanek, Lt. (Ret.) San Jose Police Human Trafficking Task Force. Mr. Vanek will discuss his book, "The Essential Abolitionist: What You Need to Know about Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery". He will address the most commonly asked questions and topics surrounding human trafficking and the challenges involved in fighting this horrific crime and assisting its victims. In addition, he will examine the myths and misconceptions related to modern slavery. While a difficult subject this story must be heard. This event is free and open to all.

Tahoe Big Year in Photos at SLT Library

Local birders, Bob and Jenny Sweatt, spent the entire year of 2015 searching the basin for as many species of birds as they could find through Tahoe Institute for Natural Science's competition entitled "Tahoe Big Year". The Big Year celebrates the hundreds of bird species that make the Tahoe region their home all year-round, during summer or winter, or while passing through to other destinations. The Sweatts documented their award-winning discoveries with amazing photographs.

Lake Tahoe's Train History at SLT Library
